+I agree with RandyMac. Give the 7900 some time, I've held one. never ran one, I've run a 125 mac, and 2171 and 044's, lots of others, time will tell, give it 10 yrs. The big macs have proven themselves, no dought. The 7900 felt chinsey to me, but I diidn't cut wood with it. A 125 mac didn't feel right to everyone that picked one up either. My favorite is the 372/2171. The macs are like BABE RUTH.

Add Tom Fales Jr. into the mix! It's one of his favorite felling saws of all time.

From a real pro logger to boot!

Have you seen his 7900 vid:jawdrop:

Al, last we heard, he lost all the vids that were posted in his photobucket account.

Tom was cutting cookies with it and it sounded and looked crazy smooth.

It was Fast

hahahahahaha good point Al.

FWIW I hated the Makita colour to start with, but I bought the saw, not a paint scheme.

Slick Rick, the DOLMAK colors will grow on you. Here's another snap shot of my BBW:drool:

The 7900 is a fine saw, but I won't say it's the best ever. They've held up under some pretty rough hands here though, and I have no complaint's.
The only thing I don't care for is the so-called "ergonomic" handle. I prefer a full wrap that is straight.
Some have commented about "longevity", just remember that longevity to a faller is measured in board feet, not years of service. If a saw will cut faster it will put more footage on the scale sheet at the end of the day. That's the main thing I like about the 7900, it will out cut a lot of heavier saws.
Oh, and they've got a decent sized set of dawg's.
Trees on the ground = money in the bank. That's my vote.

The blue/black works well.
You do realise i had to go out and take a snap right now......
Now, which bar works best, Sugi or Tsumura

and I'm not going to go and throw on the 30" unbranded German bar just for a photo shoot, I'm off to cut some firewood :p

The seven thousand nine hundred will never, ever, ever, ever, ever be an four hundred and forty/ zero forty four.....

Hooray 044!!

I have run Solo 680 and 681, they were very good. So good I was thinking that if I had 100cc or 110 cc models back in the old growth days, there would be little left standing. As it was, the foreign chainsaws at the time were pathetic, and over priced.

I love my "8500" and have nothing at all to complain about. I loved it as a 6400, too.

However, as with so many of these poll threads, I'm not gonna vote, because none of the answers reflect my opinion.

My opinion is this: the Dolmar 7900 and all of its close cousins are, TODAY, the absolute best bang for your buck.

Let's leave it at that lest I get to evangelizin' again.

Is the 7900 the best saw ever? I don't know, but out of all the current saws made today it's probably my favorite. It's simple, well made, reasonably priced, light and powerful. If this thread was about a Stihl saw and I was a die hard Sthil man I'd automatically and blindly vote yes, like the guys in the 440 thread.

With that said, I believe the 7900 is overall the best saw made today.

Now Wiggs, if I was a prejudiced Stihl head I'd probably say the same, but seeing as I don't hold an allegiance to any brand (they are a corporation after all for crying out loud and I like various models from most all 'brands') and in the spirit of our great democracies and the immortal words of my missus during any argu.., err, discussion we may have...

"I respect your right to be wrong..." :D

and dare I say it, the 7900 may even be better.....

Oh, and i didn't vote either as i don't believe anything is 'best' and the 7900 and it's brothers can be improved in a few areas too, but for me it's a great saw to swing.
