What is the difference, if any, between Dolmar and Solo chainsaws? Are they in fact the same company?

I don't believe they are the same company, but I think I read about one using parts from the other at one point.

the solo 694 and the dolmar 9010 were the same saw.

Supposedly there was close collaboration in the early portion of development for the 6400, 7300 and 7900 saw series (dolmar) and the 681/675/665 solo saws. The claim made by dolmar early on was that they split in development before things got too detailed. The saws turned out miraculously similar though.

Be advised that solo is supposedly pulling out of the US saw market.

Also, in comparing a solo 681 and dolmar 7900, the 7900 has the HD filter kit where as the 681 does not. My guess is that you have a closer dolmar dealer than a closer solo dealer, though neither is particularly strong in this category

There are no Dolmar Chainsaw's made by Solo.

There is one Solo Chainsaw made by Dolmar. Dolmar PS-9010/Solo 694. The only difference is the color & air filter hood.

The Solo 681/675/665 look like the Dolmar PS-7900/7300/6400 but are different saws. There are a few parts that will interchange but only a few.

Solo did manufacturer some string trimmers & hedge trimmers for Dolmar but that did not come to the US/Canada.
