This Whitehead 120 'Logger' will make a good restoration project, I've managed to get it running , it's nearly complete just needs a front panel/chain and some starter parts. I must do something with that crazy looking muffler :D

Looks like a beast! Never saw one of those before! Was that their own motor design? Or is that an after market motor with white head covers. I know absolutely nothing about those! Very interesting and thankyou for not adding that to a salvage heep!

Well Wayne,.. if there was ever a saw that cound be considered built like a tank then this one would come close to fitting that bill. It certainly looks like it was built for some demanding conditions. That big Bender motor can deliver the torque to pull some long chain, I bet it will look brilliant when you are through with it.

Sounds mean!

I have yet to actually find a Whitehead saw. Considering that I live less than 40 miles from where that factory once was, you'd think some would still be lurking around here. There are two other members that have 120 loggers that I know of. Maybe mine will turn up someday. Good luck finding that missing panel on the front. It is probably inside the lost ark.....

Found this on another chainsaw forum and thought i'd post it up;

Funny. Sounds just like my old '82 Honda ATC250R air cooled engine. Ring ding ding

Thanks for all the comments guys, the fairbanks morse starter needs new parts
It's missing the spring/friction washer the pawls are worn down and cup will needs replacing. If I find those parts I'll be happy.

Nice one Gmax - it seems that there must have been a number of the Whitehead saws sold out here in Australia, as you and Lee have both picked up the 120 'Logger' models from here.
I have the Whitehead 119 'Worker' model saw which is identical to your saw but fitted with the smaller 100 cc Westbend engine. It is one project saw that I would like to have a go at oneday.

Congrats on a great find!

Regards,

Chris.

What does one of those weigh ? seems to be all metal parts.

yes no plastic on these, 22 lbs. powerhead only.

Chris, If you have some spare time these are worth restoring they don't show up too often, painting is the easy part for me, finding parts is the challenge. These engines were used on carts so there should be some spares around.
