Well, I had been looking for a nice 038 Mag for a long looong time. Not just any ole 038, but a really nice one.

The search is officially over now. I have my sweetheart here with me at last. I got this one from a guy on this site. Drove about 2 hours to pick it up. He was kind enough to hold it for two weeks for me so I owe him a big thanks. I brought it home, took it apart and cleaned on it for awhile and here's what I came up with.
It pulls the 25" bar with authority. I found the weight not bad at all like I had been led to believe. The balance in awesome. I tuned on it a little and got it running pretty close to where it needs to be.

Ok, ramblin on. Lol, here it is:

Here's a few more. I can't explain the love I have for 038s. I just like em. I guess everyone has that one saw they like more than others. May not be the fastest or whatever but she'll hold her own.

I even made a vid of it running. First vid I ever posted here. Hope I can get it to work. Well, enjoy fellows.

That is a sweet saw...I dont think that thing has been used much...nice find.

Nice !

That saw should be a foldout in a magazine. I know I got kinda excited looking at it !

Yea, he said he rarely brought it out. He was the original owner. The 20" bar that came with it was'nt missing much more paint than the 25" on it now. :cool2:
NICE!

Where are the flippy caps? :hmm3grin2orange:
No flippys here mang! :hmm3grin2orange:

Yea, it gets me pretty tore up also.
what size cc is it ?

beautiful and congrats

72cc. The piston and cylinder were perfect. Looked like it was never ran.

Man that saw is cherry! I've been growing fond of the 038's lately. Be prepared to see them in demand for a while after people see this thread. Great find!

Are you sure that one is a Magnum model? All of the original Magnums and Mag II i have seen have a different nameplate. The "Magnum" sticker found on top was never used on 038's to my knowledge. I have one on my MS440 which is much newer. Or did the previous owner put the 52mm topend on it? Just bringing this up because I have seen a lot of people put the new style "Magnum" sticker on a regular 038 and try to get more for it....

Regardless, this is a beautiful saw!

I appreciate the remarks y'all. I rode home with it in the front seat with me. Could'nt wait to get it home and tune it up/clean it.

I'm going to try to make some vids in wood tomorrow since my first vid ever actually worked.:D

Maybe run thr 361, 660, 038, and 260 in the same wood just for kicks. I have a 25" Hickory down I'll bury this 038 in and get it fine tuned.
