Color scheme is correct for any of those saws.
I believe the 6900's had the model number stamped on the aluminum plate just above the serial number, don't know about the other two.
8500 would be sweeeeeet!

Believe it or not, I do own 2 pair of Carhart bibs...but they are insulated..LOL Guess I would fit in down yonder come winter time.

Your Carhart's must have come from Wally World 'cause the brand name is spelled with two t's, Carhartt. LOL I'm not sure where ya'll get those dress codes from. Around here there's a lotta wannabe "goat ropers" (cowboys) who wear jeans and Western apparel.

Must have been those two years living in Tenn. as a young-un, in my formative years, that my spelling took a hit.
My ex girl friend used to get on my case because I always wore a "farmer uniform" all the time. Jeans and a button front, short sleeve plaid shirt. LOL Just can't make anybody happy it seems!

Oh, I have no doubt you'd qualify to live in the South, Gregg. Don't forget to bring that little Ford Ranger of yours that has to be hooked to the battery charger every night. Is that thing still carbureted? Sure starts like it. It takes more than what you wear and how you talk to determine whether or not you're a true Southerner. It's more about attitude. Like, "Tomorrow is the best time to do anything. Why there's absolutely nothing I can't do. Tomorrow." Yanks can't afford that attitude. Winter is alway just around the corner. From the first day of spring, which is I believe around June 6th, till the end of fall, which is about August 14th, they're either preparing for winter or in the midst of it. Everything has to be done yesterday.
Yep, I'll take our 2 weeks of winter compared to their 2 weeks of summer anytime........
Speaking of summers..lol We have had a stretch of hot weather lately. To be humid in upper 90's for the foreseeable future. We had some heavy T-storms yesterday late, got couple inches of rain, wind, lost power. Had to power up the generator. Dang AC don't work without it..LOL
I'm thinking pretty soon, a breath of winter would feel mighty good!!

That's only a fleeting whim that will soon pass. Sounds more like a gas pain to me. Time to break out a 4000 or a 385.
Thought I better stick a couple chainsaw models in there befor the PO-lease got on me for talking too much BS.
Its funny you mention those saws. The last couple mornings, thats just what I was working on! Sharpend chains on a 4000 and 385xp.
But, this weather with heat indexes of 100 or more, I just can't handle. Even in the mornings.:msp_ohmy: Its gonna have to cool off some for this fat old guy to be workin in the woods. LOL The mind says yes! but the body says No Way!!

Was interested to see a NOS chainbrake(5) for sale on Ebay. IPL doesn't show one. Has anyone seen one on a saw?

Poulan Wild Thing and Predator
I've seen plenty of Wild Things that are green/purple, but just a few that are black/purple. Also, although VERY hard to find, the same goes for the Predator. Is there a difference between the black and green models? I've been keeping an eye open for a nice, Black/Red Predator, but they're really hard to find. I know that they're probably just a renamed Wild Thing, but I like the way they look:cool2:

I am fairly sure they are the same just different colors.I know parts interchange.

Im pretty stumped about this dayton/poulan. I took the cylinder off to inspect, because of the low compression. It seems everything is fine. The rings are still thick, dont look worn at all. No scoring or anything. Should i get some rings in it, then take the base gasket off to bump the compression?
Bob, you just have to look at the right IPL. The oldest IPL that I have that shows the chainbrake kit is from 1990.
The part # for the kit is 952069259. It can still be ordered from Poulan an is $24.40.
I don't know what color it will be when it shows up but I would think it would be grey.
This has be rehashed here befor about Poulan being slow and resisting releasing chain brakes as standard equiptment in the US and how most of the Canadian saws having them as standard to meet the stricter safety standards there.
There was also a Predator version of the Poulan Pro 335. I'm sure the only difference in any of the Predator saws was just color and marketing.

Possible to build "modern" big block Poulan?
this is something some of you old hands with tons of parts, poulan and otherwise, might be able to answer. It would take a lot of looking and comparing, etc and knowledge of sizes and configurations...
Modern "cheap"poulans are out there in abundance, but they are all smallish in displacement. Is there any way to build a franken saw using a different larger after market cylinder and piston, something that might be easy to construct? A not designed for it but would work anyway "big bore kit"? Something in the 60-70 cc class? And if so, do you think it would hold up to regular use? What case to start with, then what P/C? Not ancient, I mean relatively new. I see these new poulans marked down to 99 bucks sometimes.
My wild theory is..there might be a way to come up with a "new" 60-70 cc saw starting with a hundred buck poulan combined with a hundred buck aftermarket cylinder and piston. Then you might have something that could really run those 18 and 20 inch bars they ship with...
