Morning, Can anybody give me a safe temp to heat the wrist pin bore of the connecting rod for a piston install? I can't seem to find a service manual to download. I'm figuring 205 deg F might be a good start?:msp_unsure:

There's a special tool for pressing them in cold.
Yes and its no job for a novice without one. My homemade one has got the job done a couple times but its not the best. Hope Nik gets em made up soon.
That's exactly why I had Terry Ives install the piston on my Mac 101 rod!

i made this up for my 4000 and it works fine. just some 10-24 all thread, 2 coupling nuts, 2 washers, a spacer smaller than the wrist pin and a socket it will slide into.
makes it easy to press the wrist pin out and back in.
cheap too !

That will work. How long dose that little 10-24 rod last? It takes a pretty good pull to move one and I think the coupling nuts is a good idea as a regular nut would strip out fast.

the rod seems fine after 4 jobs.
the couplers spread the load out. a little oil doesn't hurt either.
on the last one i ran it on there with my screw gun ! once you get it moving, it goes easily.

You can heat the rod with a propane torch when putting them back in and that makes it alot easier. I have pushed them back in by hand that way, but you gotta be fast.
Getting them out is the real problem as you are well aware.
