Overtrained, you will need a cover bracket from a 10 series that uses a formed filter like you have. The stud is a few more millimeters toward the tank. With that bracket, you can use the styled cover like you have, or the squared off version from later models. Since you have cut the filter, it won't do it's job anymore! The needles need to be swapped out for shorter ones. Of course you need to adjust the carb with the filter off, but it's not that bad. Just tune a little lean, and when the filter is put back on, it'll richen right up. The alternative is to use the late model tank top and filter cover that uses the flat, square filter. The bracket you have is for that set up.
