Yup, its a pain in the arse! I heat the seam up till red then pry it open on 3 sides then slide the half's apart.

yeah... I ruined the 5100 muffler doing that without heat... took a couple to figure out the technique...

that's what i did about 5 years ago... what a PITA. figured someone would have come up with a better idea by now? lol

I remember that.

yours on right compared to the one on left on my DN7901. ;)

Right. You could just weld the halves back together after, but I just re-crimp. I hate leaving the baffle in there.

Lol, Yea stuff like that will just eat away at you. It's like an MS361 muffler. Some baffles, removal is a must. It bothers me to think about it in there stopping my saw up :D

Anyone have any experience with the new slab sided piston for the 7900? Is it worth the money to get? Does it give any advantages in skirt width?

Pin placement is not as favorable on the new piston. I like em both just fine.....

361 mufflers suck.

The ring locating pin screws you on the new piston by interfering with the intake port. For timing purposes and port shape, the older piston seems better.

Cool, thanks Randy. I'll just use what I got then, not very wide skirts, but get the ports in the right spot, should run good.

Wide ports ain't everything.........shape and placement will matter most. On the 7900 don't get happy raising the transfers. They run the best with 28-30 degrees of blowdown.

As I understand it, the 7900 is far from the most modification friendly saw ot there....:msp_wink:

Dolmar makes their saws maxed from the start. So you don't have to drop another $250 into them!
