62F in the house at the moment, debating whether to fire up the woodstove for the first time this year? :confused2:

dont do it. ours was down to 62 and i fired up the stove about 2 hours ago. now i'm sweating my ass off @ 72F.

Ours was down to 60F this morning and the wife's tolerance is only down to 59F - if it hits that then the heating device goes on (OWB or propane furnace.) Seems too early to light the fire in the OWB so I made a fire in the fireplace and it's up to 66F now and higher in the living room. That should keep the furnace off for at least a few more days.

Maybe this will help you decide. Today is the first fire for us in NY.

Have a nice roast beef and see what happens tomorrow. If its cold again have a nice chicken, and see how it is the next day. so, on and so on, till it actually gets cold.

I'm burning. Going into mid 40s tonight, what the heck, I mean I cut some wood, that's what it is for! Hitting pine sticks, uglies, offcuts, shorts, oddball scraps from the splitting area, pine cones..that stuff. I have four different piles of that jazz, might as well use it! I call it my "bonus wood".

I came home from work and it was 59 in the house. Should have let it be. Fired it up and was regretting that when it was 84 three hours later. it's a hard to judge this time of year. But i could not help myself. It's nice getting back into burning.

Haha I have a few of those piles myself. I always debate what to do with it. Garage stoves or bonfire wood. Better than trying to stack all the odd shapes on the wood rack in the house.

I finally built a separate enclosure for all those unstackables. Kind of an open-mesh silo to let air pass and keep rain out. 4' W x 3' D x 6' H. Removable front sections of 1/2" ply.
Makes cleanup after splitting a batch much simpler. Just toss the odds & ends in there.

Light the fire and open a couple widows.. might help heat up outside a bit also..

Al Gore might get upset if he sees you helping global warming. You don't want to be responsible for the oceans rising and flooding the Floridians do you?

Time for them to move inland a little ways.. :hmm3grin2orange: PLEASE all of you open your windows and light a fire.. We could use a little extra heat up here for a month or so.. Sure feels like its going to be a long cold winter at this rate. Hope the snow load stays low so i can cut all winter..:bang:

I think the forrest fires earlier this year took care of adding the heat. Too bas BS doesn't burn too well. Throw that blowhard on the fire.

I had a fire going the past two days. Let them die out early morning. Although it did get up to 84 F in the living room yesterday.
Great use of the seasoned Silver Maple splits. (Great kindling too.)

Cheers

Blowhards ... you mean Congress! It would raise global temps beyond measure. Light one member off and he will burn for a month ... so much gas ... may be an alternative energy option.

My house was down to 60 this morning, so I started a small fire. My first of the year. Brought the temp up to about 70, as the fire burned down. Guess my burning season has started!

58F now so after dinner I am firing up the stove since tonite is going to be in the low 40s
