Probably already a thread about this but I couldn't find one anyways, what is the point of the non pro box store top handle saws such as the poulan 2300 and others like that. If they aren't for climbing then what is the point of it being a top handle instead of a rear handle?

Here's how I use mine, but nobody else should because it is EXTREMELY dangerous.

AWESOME. Teach the inexperianced users wrong cutting techniques:clap: I'm sure Darwin will show up at some point:rock:

You could put one in each hand and be some kind of wood sculuptor like Edward Scissor Hand .

Seriously, some people for some odd reason think using a top handle with one hand is faster and easier to brush out a tree or cut small wood holding the limb in one hand and cutting with the saw in the other. It is not a safe practice by any means but I have seen done on more than one occasion. You should keep two hands on any saw weather it be a top or rear handle. Climbing in a tree with top handle and one handing that saw is not safe either. Both hands on the saw at all times unless your out on a limb and need to reach down with your arm straight to tip the end of the limb. Small rear handles are much easier to use in a tree than a top handle . Top handles are best suited for bucket truck work. Just my opinion.

I doubt we've ever sold a MS192TC to a professional arborist. Customers love how small and light it is. We point out the rear handle version, and how much safer it is having the rear handle, but 9 times out of 10, they go with the top handle. Women think its a cute and cuddley saw.

The vids got up before my post. Talk about wrong. Flame the heck out of me but that is just plain wrong and stupid!!!!

They exist so I can get a useful light and reasonably powerful saw for less than $50

I'd say that just because they are perceived as "non pro" (with exception of s25da) doesn't mean they can't work well.. and actually compared to many modern "pro" saws are less plasticy.

Who said you can't use them in a tree or the ground or both? I think they are handy for both... but I"m not an arborist using them every day.

By the way, since i"ve never seen a poulan 2300 in a box store, are you actually referring to the echo's or Hitachi's carried by home depot?

Those are top-top handle saws, aimed at in-tree work or pruning, and are slightly different than the 2300 style.

Demonstrating numerous unsafe work practices with the weasel disclaimer that nobody else should do what you're doing doesn't cut it. I hope you or a moderator removes that video.

yeah, and not only that, but everyone should be required to take a 50 hour safety class before being allowed to smell chainsaw exhaust. 250 hour course to buy a top handle. 9000 people die every year because of top handle saws. They are more deadly than scorpions in your ginch. Actually, all chainsaws should be registered, and rev limited to 7k rpms. No, maybe a ban on anything over 50cc. I'm so scared of chainsaws I could just pee myself but I will keep fighting to save lives.

You should run for office and participate in gun control legislation. They are using the same logic.

No, I'm pro gun so that would never work.

These evil top handle saws have to go however. In my town of 450 people 87 children died in the last year alone due to these menacing machines. That doesn't even cover the decapitation injuries that cause life long disabilities. They need to be banned. It's just that simple.

that says nothing about how the incident happened. Just that he was in a tree and the saw hit his face. I won't comment further out of respect for the man that got hurt.

What I'm saying is people should be able to buy what they want and be responsible for their own safety. The UK requirement of being a trained arborist before being allowed to purchase a top handle comes to mind.

Using a chainsaw is a personal risk to the operator. Firearms, driving a car, and eating too many burritos are risks to others. I don't think personal risks should be regulated in the same way that things that cause risk to others are.

Accidents happen because of complacency, carelessness and not being smarter than what you're working with. Banning a certain chainsaw is the same mentality as banning certain guns.

Some years ago, Hydro One (Ontario) mandated 0200's instead of 0200T's for their crews.

Don't know exactly "why", but since their management didn't feel comfortable with their professionals using a top handled saw, mebbe Joe Public shouldn't be using one either.

I think it is at least marginally safer for an idiot to use a rear handled saw with two hands, then a top handle with one.
Some folks are a danger to themselves and others. Lawyers love them, but everybody pays in the end.

Joe public are from our government brainwashing schools. They have never been taught how to think, to reason, to use horse sense, they are brain dead.
