Stihl opened here in the VA Beach facililty in 1974 with 50 employees building one unit, today there are over 2100 corporate Stihl employees not counting any dealer personel. In the 38 years here they have at the end of 2012 built over 50 MILLION units in the USA, that averages out to 1.3 million units over the years. Over 30 acres under roof with expansion plans, take in consideration the tens of thousand of people working for them indirectly and the truck drivers and people who work indirectly and they have done a fantastic job providing jobs for Americans. This is just the numbers for the USA not globally. How many companies are bringing more production and investing in American jobs and continuing to expand. All saws make great models, but no current saw company even comes close to the investment Stihl has made. It would be nice to see other major saw companies follow Stihl's lead.

some here need to learn the difference between propaganda and pure fact...........and that is a fact jack!

But isnt stihl supposed to be German? And the Germans always make good stuff.

So you have taken over Tommys role as for posting Stihl propaganda on here, I guess that is sort of OK...:D

No I would write the same thing about Husky or any other saw company, just read the facts today and found it interesting Stihl has invested so much in America, shoot you really know I respect any good saw regardless of the brand and Stihl has made it turds just like any other saw company. With so many companies abandoning the USA it's good to see one investing in a major way in the USA. If they created that kind of growth and investment in Norway, even you would give them credit for investing in your country. No propaganda just all facts.
It's great they didn't go to Mexico, China or some other place for product that is built primarily to be sold in the USA. Would love to see Husky build a facility to make saws of a higher quality than the orange poulans, love to see a USA made XP or pro class saw like the old 359. Hell, I'd even buy one just to make you happy:biggrin::biggrin:

Yes thats impressive.

I sure would like to see Poulan get divorced from husky just to see what they could do again.

Stihl USA may well have done some good, but the VB factory was mainly occupied with making lower performance EPA versions of the basic German models the last decade - even some pro models like the 260 and 361. It doesn't look like this carries over to the "strato" age though.

No it's definetly going to change, I look for more and more pro saws to be made there as well as much of the "I" saw line (digital fuel injection) as you know better than most of us land is a precious commodity in Europe, they have run out of real esate in Germany. They have bought many acres here so they can expand production, as the US market shrinks the global market is growing at a pace they are having a hard time keeping up with, so bless them for expanding product lines and giving Americans jobs. To me it is irrevelant about the company, it's good for a change to see a company invest in America, rather than running from the 26 percent corporate tax rate. More new things in the pipeline than you can shake a stick at, glad Husky is there to keep driving them to be better and vica versa.

Many of the Stihl products made in Virginia Beach, Virginia, United States of America are exported all over the world. The US unit has quality that is second to none.

It isn't about the quality, it just is that the pre-strato saws made there aren't on par with the German made counterparts, at least not the ones made for the US market.

The other markets that were supplied by VB made saws were Canada, Australia, and New Zealand, but the mufflers for those markets were different from the US ones.

What is your major malfunction?

This thread was about the investment Stihl made in a US manufacturing facility. No one gives a Rats ass that the saws made there are not the same saws that are produced in Germany, it's not relevant to the point being made. Stihl is investing in the US economy and that's what's important

Stihl should be applauded for their actions, not criticized for not producing a certain type or model of saw in the US facility.

Have a nice day.

mufflers are different but the rest is the same.same as husky. or do the euros use different cylinders, different pistons, different carbs, different ect.

I always appreciate your factual posts.

In Australia, the Stihl pro saws obviously have the dual port muffler, high volume oil pump, larger carb jets, dual dog spikes and roller chain catcher as well as the HD2 air filter.
The US saws now have the HD2 filter and mabey the dual dog spikes but none of the other upgraded gear.
I know as I got a 660 from the states last year and upgraded it to Aust specs.
Shame with your EPA bulls*it as it chokes the saws down and dosent give justice to the non strato saws
Other than that, the quality is on par with the german builds

I think the only thing the USA 660 are missing from yours is the dual port cover. not really that big of deal and for the price difference here we can almost buy 2 660s to your one.

I had to change the main jet from a 62 to a 74, control bolt and pump on the oil pump, put the roller chain catcher on instead of the crap piece of aluminium and the dual port muffler.

Yes your saws are almost half price but so is your wages over there.
It ia all relevant to what country you are from.

That is why people are on the net, to get a better deal and make their money go further.
I saved around $300.00 after i upgraded the saw to Aust specs. $300.00 is still $300.00 dollars no matter
Cheers Wayne

Nothing like ST bashing Stihl
