OK, I don't want this to come off the wrong way. Especially to my buddy Randy. But when a guy with his status, which is certainly earned, puts a saw on a "no port list", it has the effect of blackballing that saw in the minds of many members. Kind of like being labeled a communist in the 50's or something. ;) I know that wasn't his intention by any means, but still the effect is very real. The reason is the phenomena on these sites where things get multiplied many times beyond their actual reality.

So this "no port list" stuff, like many things on a site like this, needs to be countered with some additional data. I'm not saying Randy isn't seeing what he's seeing. I'm saying I'm not seeing what he's seeing. I sell quite a few of these new saws and have not run into anything near the carb problems that Randy has. Since they've come out I've replaced a total of 2 carbs covering all models of both brands. No more or no less than any non AT saw. And it's important to understand that they were typical carb issues not in any way related to AT.

I've talked to other dealers; some also members here. And again, no one reports an epidemic of carb issues on the new saws. I hesitated to start this thread, but with the "no port list" thread still on the front page, I thought that it was a discussion worth having.

Could it be that his porting is taking the saws past the parameters the module can handle? Perhaps there were differing versions of the programming used and that could account for why some of his jobs went fine and some not? It may have been a running update that would not affect stock saws, so there was no official SB done???? Just thinking out loud.

Very valid points made in the OP. That is good to know. I wouldn't hesitate to buy a 562, nor hesitate to have it ported if I so inclined. However, I understand where Randy is coming from also.

Possible of course. If it's actually AT related. Could also just be a bad carb that had nothing to do with AT like mine were.

For what it is worth, my local Husky dealer has only had one AT saw come back, and it had nothing to do with the AT system or carb, it broke a rod and tore the cylinder up. They "totaled" the carcass and gave the guy a new one on the spot.. They have sold plenty of AT saws the past year.

Did I hear that the newest 562 carb has a idle bypass screw like the 550, which has the same effect as a L needle? I've had to adjust that on several 550s I've messed with. I've not messed with a 562 yet.

Yes, if you've got the flippy caps, you've got the screw.

Corporate of course swears this is in no way an adjustment screw and we shouldn't touch it. :)

You did of course do the right thing, and in a nice way as usual!

There really was a need for this thread!

A vague answer and not what I expected from our main numbers man, feeling OK ? :)
I am starting to accept the haters of AT. :sucks:

As everything else it has its limitations - and when you try to pass those limitations, you may get yourself into trouble.

Another observation is that people tend to blame the AT for regular carb issues and operator errors - but that wasn't really unexpected.

Did he say anything about the saws not running well stock??
If not. The carb doesn't port well?
The man only wants to do a good job.
Can't be the best on every saw.
You get spread too thin.
He is still learning.
You have to have a very good knowledge of a subject before you realize what you don't know.
He is a two man shop. Heluva lot to know.

My 562 that came with flippy caps does not have a screw.
