Here in Okla having been in two major ice storms, you will have limbs fall out of trees for years.
Randy will need to get a pole saw and the stihl 150 that will be the most used saws for the next year

Maybe he'll get the rasps to finally port muh weedeater and poll saw ;)

Let me say after you run one for a couple tanks of gas he will wish it was ported,
A pole saw is needed for ice storm clean up and if Randy has a lot of trees on his property a pole saw is a must.

that video is only about 15 miles from randy's house

Great video, thanks for sharing. I've never seen anything like that before.
When the video started I was wondering why whoever cut the tops off the trees didn't just go ahead and take a little more off so it was all out of the road. Then I saw how many there were!
Hope it warms up back there soon for all those folks.

Wow paul you dont know what fun your missin' around here if its not snow and ice storms its tornados.:chainsaw:

It reminds me of the Halloween storm we had a few years ago - a foot of wet snow + winds while many of the trees were full of leaves (northern red oaks in particular), and the ground was already very wet from previous storms. Branches and uprooted trees everywhere, and the woods sounded like a war zone.

Can still see the trees all jacked up from a tornado a few years ago when we go down 40 to the Smokey Mountains. Went past when it originally happened and couldn't believe all the garbage stuck in the trees. Aluminium siding, plywood, other assorted building products. Was a real mess.

Yep, trees are still dieing from those 2 ice storms, and that was 7-8 years ago. If they didn't fall over due to the ice, all of the broken limbs has taken its toll. 2-3 summers of drought did not help either. Most of them look like crap now too.

we got more snow last night on top of all this mess. I feel for the line crews out trying to restore power. at one point they would fix a line just to have a tree fall over a 100yds up the highway. they just couldn't catch a break.

Ever since the ice storms of '07 and '08 we still have crews trimming around the power lines to prevent just what you are talking about. I see them all the time. I understand the necessity of what they are doing but they just destroy the tree. They don't ask and they don't care. They just want to get the limbs away from the lines. I may drive around and take pics some day.

Glad you are doing good Terry (as far as the storm goes). How is your health? If you hear from Randy or know of anything we can do let us know.

Yeap slicker than whale snot.only got 6" so far on top of the ice that refroze last night.snow is slightly wet making it super slick.i really really dread going to check in at work.done been over 25 miles this morning but the one road i work on is always bad on a good day.:dumb2:
Bet that would be pretty disheartening to go 100 yd and just have more trees rip the lines down behind you.:chainsaw: I have nothing but respect for line crews.

One of the major companies was doing that all around here this summer - I was amazed at the butchery. They took a 150yo oak out at my dad's place without asking, and it was on the other side of the road from the lines. Then they left a bunch of half dead ashes hanging over the line, and took most of the oak. They left only the main trunk that was wrapped by a 6" poison ivy vine and tied up in a support cable they dropped it on. It was tricky to cut up on that cable.

In watching what they left on local roads, they didn't even trim off branches properly so the trees could heal - they often hacked off large branches a foot or two from the trunk and left it.

We (my family and I) talked to one of those contract crews last summer and they said that they were super short handed. IIRC, they said that they were not allowed to have enough trucks/crews to do all the work. They didn't say why but I suspect the power company simple underhired. Thus everything was butchery.

If anyone hears from the MOOB please let him know that we are praying here in the Caroliners!
He's helped me many times, and answered quite a few questions. Thanks again!
