I am in my first year in college. I tried out for the woodsman/timbersports team here at school. I really enjoy the sport. This summer I would like to practice at my house, so I need an axe. I will be cutting a variety of wood species to get form down. Thanks, for any help.

The prices on those Tuatahi axes are in NZ dollars (0.76 USD). After conversion, the prices do seem more in line with what you'd expect to pay for a hand forged axe. The extra amount you're paying is for those custom grinds, something you won't get in the more commercially available ones.

I knew they were NZ but the money you save in the conversion you pay for in shipping to buy new from the sight. I might buy one anyways just trying to get something a little more local so i don't have such a long wait.

I've had an ax in the shed for years and it hasn't moved an inch. I can't imagine racing them.

Me too. I get it out about once per year- I touch up the edge with a file, oil it, and put it back. I don't know that it's ever cut a lick or split a stick. I use a hatchet and a hammer for splitting kindling, and a Pulaski if I need to chop a root.

How do you get them to race? I went out, laid it next to a line on the floor and said, "Ready, Set, GO!" but it made no effort to race. Maybe it needs another axe there for competition.
