Just got word that I need a new cylinden, piston, fuel lines, and top shroud.

I'm not gonna pay the stihl shop $600 to fix an older 660.

There are a lot of 660 cylinder/piston kits on ebay. Any I should stay away from? Any recommendations?

It is possible that Stihl policy is to replace the cylinder along with the piston whether the cylinder can be salvaged or not.
It is unlikely that the cylinder cannot be salvaged. So, a Meteor piston for $40 or thereabouts will get you back going the majority of the time.
That would be better than an aftermarket top end to me anyway.

I can get OEM cheaper than Meteor

Previous owner would be my guess. I don't know how to go about cleaning it up. I will probably just get another cylinder and piston. Here is some pics of the piston. Do you think it failed because of the ring or from something else?

Looks lean.. but the lack of bevels on the ports doesn't help any.

True but the piston is scored wider than the exhaust port width and there is little to no scoring on the intake side piston skirt. I would like to see the cylinder cleaned up so the edges of the port are easier to see clearly. When I bevel the ports the intake side gets very little bevel, not even .0010 wide as the rings don`t travel over it and the exhaust port only gets a slightly little more bevel, hard to see without a good light inside a clean bore.
