Lol'ed at a mechanic today. Took a Colorado in for a service and mentioned that it was using oil and have topped it up 3 times since last service. Mechanic says he himself checked the oil when it arrived and it was full so it is not using oil...

In other exciting news, the holden engineers figured out that if they put a longer dipstick in the oil use issue will be a thing of the past. Lets hope so but time will tell.

Fair dinkum what donk?

staff are great just great,,,, 2;40am txt wakes me up im not comin in boss,,,a 61oam call can i swap a day pls
There's no way I'd be woken by staff at 2:40am. That's because if I had staff, I'd be up all night worrying someone was going to do something stoopid, hurt or kill themselves, and I'd have to knock on someone's door and tell them their son, father, uncle, daughter, mom, niece, etc died or seriously hurt themselves at work today. Furthermore, if I hired a rotten apple they could seriously ruin the whole barrel or, the way employment laws are here, hang me out to dry pretty darn easy. It just plain scares me. I have the work for at least one other person in my rolling circus act, but am just not cut out to manage people. That's a skill that's so underrated, so hats off to you and anyone who can do that well.

Great news re the insurance cover Neil. It's great to hear someone has had a win when it comes to insurance companies.

Did they test the fuel or know what was wrong with it?

We did expect more proof would be needed and kept a sample but the assessor read the reports from the 2 repairers and their thoughts to rectify the problem and so decided to go ahead and approve the claim after talking to both repairers.
I will point out tho, the assessor discussed the quote with our mechanic, making sure I guess any work done was relevant to the problem. He picked the turbo replacement and asked is that necessary and my mechanic told him I wanted a new one after the I found out it was spooled up so much, the mechanic said the turbo was fine in his opinion and could drop that if the assessor approved the rest in which he did.

Changed my way of thinking about insurance, in this case they came good and does not affect the No claim bonus, however I still need to pay the excess which is $650.00.
Insurer is our very own GIO.

All my fuel for my operation and vehicles comes from one place, same bowsers in fact I have been fuelling out of the same pump for over 20 years, they (GIO) have not asked to name the depot as yet either, I would of thought they would try and recoup the loss that way.

Yes. They will do that if you are not the only insurable loss.

Keep us informed of any outcome...very interesting.

Edit: in the past I have been involved in something similar and the insurers all got together and conducted forensic examination of the faulty goods and then launched one large action.....it was a result of the evaporation coolers catching on fire and the action was worth about $50 mill. ......lots of buildings lost because of a 1 cent capacitor in a circuit board.

Its the late model vm motori 2.8, some also call it a Fiat. 20,000km on the clock so we'll see how she goes, with the next service at 40k. I would have thought that a dipstick is one of the most important things to get right, but Im just a saw hack.
