Welcome OLY-JIM, I would sit tight, if you are happy with what you have, run it until you NEED something else, or come across a great deal on a used saw, they are out there. There are a lot worse saws out there than a 250, and if it works, run it, save the money and buy some bars and chains and have at it!! No need to fix what ain't broke!

All good questions. But listen to me now as I'm speaking from experience; DO NOT tell your wife about this site!!! Just let her think you're looking at naughty pics or something. Or you can tell her but in order to get her off your back about it you might need to buy her a chainsaw too.

If you buy her a saw, make sure it's waaaaaay bigger than her small frame can handle. Then when she doesn't like it you can drop your ms250 in her lap! :hmm3grin2orange:

Hello, thanks for the post. I do like the 250, however, after buying the 361...It's of course now my back-up saw. I knew from the beginning that some folks didn't like it, but it feels good in my hands and performed the job I wanted it to do in good form. The saw has its uses and limitations! That's why I bought the 361! This saw humbs in comparison. But that's the difference in a pro saw. wdchuck: I bought all the PPE...chaps, gloves, boots, helmet and face shield, prot. eye ware. I believe in having the right gear! Let me know if I'm missing something. So Long for Now!

Yes you did, but that's what we are here for.

Okay, get a bigger saw75cc or bigger, a CSM(chainsaw mill), then mill some boards, frame up a saw shed, soundproof insulation, get a wifeproof lock, put in some nice racks for the saw stuff and a comfy bunk for yourself, make sure you have electricity in it(underground extension cord to the neighbors garage), heat, A/C, a Kegerator. You'll need this once the wife finds out about A.S., and the neighbors tell her how much the UPS guy is stopping at yer house, and she won't be able to cut the power on ya either.:hmm3grin2orange: :hmm3grin2orange:

Now that's not very nice, Oly, don't give her a hand-me-down, tsktsk, a rear handle MS200 would be far better.

Wow, your tough SawTroll. He does like the saw and he mentioned it is doing what he wants.

Troll says the same thing twice a day... I think it's driving Stihl sales up.

I never hear anyone (that has actually bought one) complain about the 250.. They work real well. Personally I HATE the 210... but the 250 come to life. I'm still not sure why they even sell a 230, but...

Back to topic at hand - Welcome... Sorry you've been infected with the AS virus, but... whatever you do don't buy a mill, or turn a bowl... from the very first bowl or the very frist opening of the first log you mill, you're toast! :hmm3grin2orange:

So, what's the next purchase..????

wdchuck: I hadn't really thought about a mill...you may have to learn me about that. As far as the bunk in the garage, I may not be far away from that...I hope she enjoys it! I'll put the saws in the closet where they're nice and warm. Lake: I've read a lot of your posts and value your insight. As far as the next one...believe it or not...I'm actually already kicking around the idea of a 441 or a 460. Then I experience moments of reason and tell myself that I really don't need it. It's hard being this conflicted. Time will tell?

That 441 is a nice saw OLY, but the 460 has more power for the weight.

I've been kicking around those two saws for a while too!

It will last as long as it takes for her to find the cookie jar..........empty.......under yer bunk inna garage... You, covered in chain oil, and chips, asleep, snuggled up with your saw, all nice 'n' cozy like.... um, from what I've read here it gets a bit harder to dodge stuff the bigger the saw yer packin', I think its the big bars, we forget, and they go pokin' out from behind the trees at the most inopportune times (we think its a virus involved, no cure, just no rust and plenty of fluids, won't cure it but you'll have an air of contentment).
Gah I go now, too late/early here!

460 Is A Callin!

Well...I've been thinking about it all day, and I believe that my next saw is going to be a 460 with a 25" bar. I know this saw would easily manage a 28" bar but I'm not sure I need it. I do have a question regarding the 260 Pro. Why does this saw seem to get such harsh critiques from so many? I've handled it and briefly ran a friends and it felt like a fine saw (And he loves it). I know the 5100S is supposed to be the cat's meow, and the 353 a solid performer. However, do these saws really out class the 260P that badly? Any input would be appreciated! Thanks.

The 026 is a fine saw... Just took Dolmar 16 years to figure that out how to make one incrementally better. The main criticism is that it's no longer state-of-art, but then again, neither am I. Sure it's an older design, but rock soild and a decent performer (like I'd like to think I am)
