image5-1.JPG Hello,

I have the option to purchase a 2171 but it would require a bit of a drive. It appears to be in very good shape, but in one of the photos that were sent showing the bottom of the saw, it appears there may be a crack running down the middle of the case. I've asked the seller, but she doesn't know much about saws, so I thought I'd ask for opinions here.

Do you think this is a crack, scuff or a seam? I know it's tough to tell from a photo but appreciate your opinions.

Nope, its on the bottom down the center of the saw the long way. You probably have to zoom in but it looks like it's exactly in the center of the saw so I imagine it's the seam on the bottom - between the two halves. But it looks inconsistent - almost like a scratch or crack. Thanks for looking.

Looks like a deep scratch in the bottom of the tank, not the engine case. It is plastic and has a seam down the length of it to then handle but it looks like something gouged it. If its not leaking fuel I wouldn't worry about it.

Well here's the most important question for your long drive......What's the asking price $$
The seller is a SHE??? Is she selling it because of divorce or something??
It's obviously used, so who used it and when last?

The reason I state these questions is because usually people who sometimes want to sell a bad apple have another person "who can't answer for its history" be the seller.

But as for your crack question, that's the tank seam and to me looks OK, but it is on its side and maybe for that reason, so make sure there's gas in the tank when you inspect that and make sure that seam stays dry.

I was wondering the same thing about the chain Bacon K5! The rakers look a bit slim.

jr27236 - thanks for all the helpful tips. I believe it was from a divorce, and the asking price is $450. It looks to be in great shape.

Aahhhhhh divorce to me means that saw is now $200 lol
But then again she might come out in suspenders and be tougher then us and have a bigger saw of her own

Reminds me of an old joke:

What's the difference between a moose and a woman from Caribou, Maine?

10 pounds and a flannel shirt.

A women goes into beauty salon and asks the hair dresser if she could make her look like Elke Sommer.
The hair dresser says no, but I can make you look like a moose in winter.

They say the definition of a con is a con coning a con, so if I was the op I'd put piston stop in place of the plug and tell her it's seized. Lol

What's wrong with the chain? It's used, but there is plenty of tooth left. Are you looking at the depth gauge?
Just wonder if they use to polish wood, or wood burning engraving. I've seen bigger chips plastered on a belt sander than the saw lol

I think the Crack is fine might be able to talk it down in price if you bring a print out of a new tank handle with the price and tell her the Crack could lead to serious injury when it let's loose in a kick back
