Had my 064 running it was struggling some blubbered almost died pulled it out of the cut and chain was going backward saw idling??? What causes this. Its a saw wife got me on ebay 300 bucks brand new 32" bar and chain. Figure bar and chain worth $100 so a running project saw for 200 bucks not to bad. I love the size and feel of the 064 so I want to rebuild from ground up it feels like a powerful 044. Not the power of my 066 but definitely feels more nimble in the hand.

I had a saw do the same thing, pinch in the cut and when pulled out it was running backward. didn't notice at first but wouldn't power up then seen why. started 066 once and it kicked back running backwards. out of time then but they idle fine, crazy!

Just put the chain on backwards. :buttkick:

I'm out of my area of expertise here, but because the timing is so close to TDC, won't any 2 stroke run backwards if it's started that way. Could a back fire at start, or timing problem (flywheel position), cause this?

New to tech side.

This is my first project saw. Previous chain saw exp consists of changing plug ,bar and chain and a little carb adjustment. Have a shop manual and IPL coming so wish me luck as I jump in. I fix airliners for a living so I would hope I can figure this out with out to much trouble with some advice here

My friend Kristin and I had a 2 stroke Harley Davidson golf cart back in jr high/high school that to go in reverse, the engine would actually switch directions. Had 2 timing settings. Craziest damn thing.

The later coils have circuits to stop that from happening. You may just have an early version.

If you have an early saw with the two key flywheel, you're in luck - you can just use the "standard" 0000 400 1300 coil from many different stihl saws

I have an Echo cs 346 I bought earlier this year. Using it to clean the edges of an old lane. Short pull to get it going, went to hit a vine and the goofy thing jumped in my hands. Turns out the saw was running backwards. I have used it a lot since then and no issues.

Im guessing the saw started after I let off the pull cord.

Bass akwards

DON'T PAY ANY ATTENTION TO THESE CHAIN HEADS!!!!!!!!
It's really your anti reverserator valve going bad!!!!!!!:jester:

In the days of two stroke detroit diesels, you could bump the dock a little too hard and they would run backwards.
