They do not honor it well and often blame the owner. But, chainsaws are very reliable on the whole and if they do have manufacturing issues blow up in the first 10 hours. The Echo saws are still a good buy. All the companies hate honoring warranties.

The Makita saws are fantastic as well. I am converting my work fleet over to them due to cost of parts and ergonomics.

:)

490/500/501P-echos- excellent saws for the money. I have a new ported 501P for sale.

Best bang for the buck if leaving it in stock form IMO is the Makita 4300. 16" bar and in stock form the best running. And comes in new with a price tag in the range of $330 give or take.
How do you like the 501 Mr. Miller? I've been considering that saw. Also been considering the 490 or 590 for my girlfriend's son.

Why do you day the warranty is a joke? All I've seen is how their 5 yr warranty can't be beat

They denied my warranty because I had a Champion plug in instead of the NGK but even admitted the plug was ok according to the cross reference chart. Oh yeah, my saw sat at the dealer for 10 months, equal to how long I owned it, before they even decided to have it shipped to the service center. Plus they claimed dirt ingestion, they said I should have sealed the air filter with grease, it states that NOWHERE in the manual. Plus they were very rude.

Sounds like you need a new dealer Mr. Dahmer. I really don't know how some of these shops stay in business treating customers that way. That's one advantage of learning the basic mechanics and tuning etc. You can buy a saw from anywhere.

The dealer showed me the emails sent to Echo. They were ignored or replied that they would get back to him. There are Echo dealers on this site that have dropped or considering dropping Echo for the same reasons.

If they claim a 5 year warranty then why should you have to work on it yourself if it's supposed to be under warranty? If you buy a new car and it breaks a piston are you going to work on it yourself or use the warranty?

It's a really nice upgrade over the 490/500. They did very well. It's old school and dependable. Rubber a/v. Yada yada. Reminds me a lot of an 026. Simple and effective. It's no 5105 in the power department though. But it is lighter like the 4300. It's all on preference though. I run the 5105. It's my favorite in that class. Though price and what op wants. The 4300 or 501P would be the way to go. In stock performance I'd rate them this way. 490/500 bottom, 501P then 4300. Simple muffler mod and base gasket delete however will put the 501P on top quickly. Hard to beat the AV and easy start on the 4300 though. Lol.

Thanks for the reply. Probably towards fall until any new saws but trying to gather some info. Do you sell these saws? If so, I'll give you a shout when I'm ready to buy.

I totally agree. The only point I'm trying to make is I think the dealer should've been more helpful to you. 10 months holding your saw is just unacceptable. A few hundred dollar saw really isn't a big deal in their world. They should've made it right for you regardless of the manufacturer. That's just bad customer service and a good way to lose customers.

I sell the makita/Dolmar and jonsered. Right now I have a new 501P as I bought 2 just to play with. 1 has sold. Other is still on my shelf. Lol.

That Dolmar 5105/Maruyama MCV51 are beasts. Love 51's more than the Echos.

I have 490's and 400's. Muffler modded and retuned they are very good saws for the money, I just don't like getting the run around. My 2 new saws are Maruyama. Great saws.

Brand new ported MCV51:)

learn something new everyday. i'm on AS everyday and never heard of Maruyama. :crazy2:

I'll keep you in mind when I'm ready to buy. Always hear good things about the Dolmars but no dealer near me. The videos are impressive.

Buy a 5105 or a 51 and you won't be disappointed. They make termites jealous.
Lol. If your telling me that I'm a Dolmar/makita dealer. Lol. I have my personal 5105H a used 5105, 5100 and 1 new 5105 Dolmar left then the new 5000 makitas in stock. Bahahaha. Don't have a MCV51 though. But I will. Just so people ask. What the heck is that.

Last year masterminds gtg I took a built 5105,421, and the starting of a built 501P. The most played with was the 421.
