Not to drag up a 3 month old post....but....I would not say his dealer is lying....
Some dealers do get things right from virginia beach, I helped a dealer local to me unload a bunch of packages off the brown truck (UPS) one day, I had stopped by to see if the saw and parts I had ordered, came in yet. Right as the brown truck pulled up. All the boxes had shipping labels on them from "virginia beach stihl"
I asked the owner of the store about it, he said they do not go threw the local distributor, like most of the other dealers do, they get stuff right from virginia beach stihl.
I ordered a few things at a different local stihl dealer once, parts came in a box with "Intermountain stihl" on the shipping label, which is the distributor out this way that most dealers get things from.

Put up a pic of one of these labels, and what the contents are.
Maybe Stihl has some factory outlet stores, The scratch n dent stuff?

The premise that Stihl has 1 dealer in the country that gets it's parts directly from the factory is silly, the labels on the boxes you saw likely were on the boxes "to" that dist. from Stihl in Va. Beach, and the dist's labels to that dealer were elsewhere on that box.
I’ve got a 3700 I bought in 1983 and it still cuts better than my brothers stihl 361 he bought six months ago.

Those old poulans were good saws, I wore a 3.7 craftsman( poulan ) completely out. never thought of rebuilding it. It cut many a trailer load of wood.
I will get a picture of the label next time I pick up an order from them. No: there were not any other labels on the box, the only label on the boxes were right from virginia beach. From; virginia beach To; My local dealer

Do some reading and research, stihl has a 2-step channel system: (1) large wholesaler distributors (2) independent retail dealers
It was explained to me like this by my local dealer. We are a independent stihl retail dealer, we have been a dealer since mid 1960's, before stihl setup the large distributor network in the USA. Stihl gave us a choice way back when to sign up with one of the new distributors they were setting up, or to continue to buy direct from them. We chose to keep buying right from them, so we are grandfathered in. We do not go through a distributor.

BTW,
Stihl has 11 distributors in the USA, 5 of which are independent distributors, and 6 are owned by stihl.

If you have a saw that starts, runs reliably & can obtain expendable parts why do folk feel they have to buy a more expensive saw Having been in the saw game for many many years I have (Ducks for cover)Never bought a new saw, some used /not abused some used/abused I have never kept a Stihl for myself all have been flipped over the years I modt have cut thousands of cubic metres of fire wood Don't have reliability problems with what some folk consider Div 2 saws & have suprised a good few folk in the fact that my €30saw keeps pace or out cuts their much more expensive new kit I guess the advantage I have is maintaining saws for a living & knowing that a well tuned /sharp chained saw of Less price will out perform an ill tuned blunt chaned Expensive bit of kit

When a dealer {around here} opens a box from the distributor, the stuff inside has a label on it from the distributor that it came from. If they ordered 10 pieces of an item, they come in a bag or envelope with the distributor's label on it.

Looking on Ebay, here is a Stihl part from Intermountain Stihl. The dist. in Colorado.

Yes, sure there are shipments from Stihl in Va. Beach to dealers, but parts and units come through the distributors. I think in rare cases there may be emergency parts from the factory, displays items, literature, signs, maybe oil etc..
But it is generally structured through the distributers, and the distributors also issue their own pricing.

I ordered a 241 c-m from my dealer it came right from virginia beach, said so right on the label on the box. It did not come though a distributor.
I ordered these parts (and bunch of others) not long ago, for a ms460 I'm rebuilding, the box they came in was right from virginia beach, not through a distributor. I no longer have the box those parts came in, otherwise I post up a pic of the label. It was just a regular order not a emergency order.
Show me where is says "Intermountain Stihl" on the label....
I have some ms461 parts on order with my dealer now, when I go get them I will be sure to save the box they are shipped in, so I can show you the label.
I do have some parts here that I ordered from a different dealer, and those say "Intermountain Stihl" on the label on the parts. Because yes that is the distributor most dealers out here use, most, not all.
