Finally got another full log back to the pit today and didn't waste any time making sawdust!
Still a long ways to go on this guy but I think I'm past the hardest part.
Got Bucky sanded and started laying some hair on him today.
He was looking kinda lonely so I decided to give him a kid to look up to him,lol
I really had no idea what I was gonna do with the rest of this carve if the buck head turned out alright, so this was just a spontaneous decision once I picked up the saw. Still gotta clean up the little guy and shape him up a little better before I start the finish.
Thanks man!
Some kind of pine, but I'm not sure of the exact species. It's been on the ground over a year and a half now and I just got around to cutting it to size last fall.
It's carving real clean though and holding the detail nicely!
Not exactly the finish I had planned for this one, but the log has a mind of it's own sometimes and gets the final say.
Just need to clean up a few minor details around the base and dump a few more coats of spar on it.
