Husqvarna 365

So I bought a running 365 this evening for $20. Date code shows mfg date of 2000. It’s gritty and well used. Plan to clean it up this week and pull the muff to get a peak at things. What ya fellers know about this saw? Any words of wisdom on fixing her up?

I’ve got an industrial hot power washer with the best degreaser known to man. She’ll clean right up!

I’m thinking I’d like to tear this saw down and go ahead and do a rebuild on it. Any mods I can do on it for for some extra grunt? I’m sure a mm will be in order. Read something about a 372 top end? Will a 372 p&c fit under the plastic and will it require anything different to work with this saw?

If it's a closed port saw I would leave it alone. Otherwise I'd pick up a 50mm OEM top end. It's a bolt on swap.

And @Yotaismygame tells you he can port it and how AWESOME it'll be in 3...2...

Ok edumacate me fellers... i guess there are 3 versions of the 365, the regular, special, and Xtorque. I assume I have here the regular verson since I see no reference to special or torque on this saw. Can anyone conform?

I would do the basics plug, fuel and pulse line's
Carb kit,seals,rings and piston if needed.
They run good as is
You'll get a bit more out of a 372
If desired.

If the intake rubber tube bolts onto the cylinder, its an open port 365. If it clamps and doesn't have removable transfer caps, it's a special. Transfer caps is an xtorq

Ok fellers, after a better lookI realized this is the 365 special. From my reading, this means is should be a closed port design. If that’s the case, should I just replace the piston and rings, or?
I’m wanting to go ahead and order a top end kit for it. Should I go ahead and bump up to the 50mm kit or stay with the 48? And I’ve never rebuilt a saw before so what else should I order along with the kit? I’m considering ordering the walbro carb as well.

and sorry for all the questions. I’m excited about this new hobby.

You can do 48mm, 50mm, 51.4mm. Question is are you going to port it? Owned all three and cut with all three, if not porting I would do the 50mm p/c. But that's just my opinion and am sure others will be different.

Agree if p/c are both in nice condition, put a new ring in it and run it. No big increase in cutting performance between all three (stock). Again, that's just what I have noticed.

You could send it to @huskihl . He likes working on ratty 365s, and when you get it back it'll beat up on 50 and 51.4mm saws and steal their lunch money.

That saw needs a good cleaning first! Before sending it anywhere.
