This saw is mint, stripped down to the chassis and cleaned the whole shebang. Paint virtually unmarked. Couple of minor problems, 1, one of the starter pawls in broken at the end and one of the 4 pronged dogs on the starter mechanising is broken off. Also, it came with no bar, chain or sprocket. A 7 pin 3/8 husky sprocket fits and I have a brand new 25 inch Windsor hard nose bar, but should I be running 404 or something larger? 3/8 looks a bit small on this beast? Also, no compression release. Q port? It has a small u shaped lift in the exhaust port. Lots of compression on pull over.... wonder if that is what broke the fly well pawl end?

Wow Sean good to see you around again that is like new looking. Um nah 3/8 is good 404 if ya really wanted too but I wouldn't unless was running a 20 on it.

Yeah no compression release mine is very hard to turn over also it takes a mans pull.

The Q port works though from what they say on here the non Q 82cc saws are dam near impossible to pull without decompression.

Um the starter shaft Is special to the Qport saws. Its either longer or shorter I cant remember but I do remember I had to swap it out when I ran the more common starter housing. You could knock off the other 1 so it only has two. Or weld on a new dog thingy majiigy on to the shaft. I'm sure its longer

Agree with jethro, stay with .375 chain. Its cheaper. Also its indeed Q port if the exhaust looks like that. The starter housing on 800s are deeper than others so youll have a longer starter shaft. The 800, 8200, de80, 805, and i think s850 utilized the same one. Keep an eye out for those ones for replacements. That saw is very very clean. Very nice.

Nice saw. Stateside it would be considered a “rare” saw.

I have been experimenting with .404. RandyMac, a member here who has forgotten more from real world cutting experience than I will ever know, cautioned against it. He is no doubt right. However, I like the durability and wider kerf albeit at a performance cost. It also may be taking a toll on the saw that I haven’t seen yet. I say go with the 3/8 for quicker cutting and better availability for everything from chain, bars, sprockets, files and accessories,

Ron

For us kiwis chain can be a tricky 1 to source if it's not a standard thing like example I couldn't get any skip tooth of any sort in 3/8 050 down here nothing so I'm running full comp stihl rs on my 32incher. It came with a nice new loop of carlton semi and I hated it on that bar I just couldn't get it to feed nicely at all I tried a few different ways of fixing it too. On the 20 or 24 inch bars it's nice quite like it actually. Another guy on the thread had same issues with carlton semi also.

The stihl chisel needed attention from the box also

There is a couple shafts on Ebay at the moment but spendy. If you have a spare short shaft around I'd just cut the dog set off it and swap it onto the long shaft should be easy enough. I got a couple spares about if your stuck (short style)

Well Tim I will say this, I wont be missing upstate NY again this year and you can rest assured, every saw I bring will be of the vintage variety. I recently sold my Husky 266 which was the newest saw I owned. Now everything I have is somewhere between the late 50s and the early 80s.

I like the older saws for what they are. Some cut faster than others just like the new saws of today. I have around 70 saws, Poulans, MACs, Homelites. Jonsereds, Remingtons, a couple of Husky's and Stihl's. A couple of Echo's a PM Canadien, Pioneers and some I likely can't remember. All decent machines with faults on every one of them. All fun to cut with. No new saws on my short list though.

I sure wish there was an "old saw" GTG within driving distance from me.

I sure hope it will be on next year. It's quite wearing on the hosts I'm sure. A lot of pressure and work.

It's good to hear you can attend. I tried to encourage some guys to bring some old saws. Maybe I should do that again. A few guys did and there seemed to be a lot of interest in some of the old stuff I brought.

I might bring my beater Husky 2100. I think it's an 1987 saw and maybe a couple of older little saws.
Let me know if any of the scant MAC stuff I have might be of interest for you to run.

I think this coming GTG I'll pay a little more attention to getting the chains a little better.

Hey, that could be handy. I’ll finish assembling the saw and give it a few runs, see how things go. Did a bit of cutting with a PM 10-10s this evening. Jeez those things have got some grunt, running a 24 with semi chisel 3/8. Nice 4 stroke crackle on WOT then hunkers down and rips in the wood. I think it would keep up with a 60cc husky from the same era, maybe even gruntier. Has the decomp button on it.. my new favourite saw.

They do say they cut pretty well those. It's a real tidy saw that 1 I remember it on trade me it's the Only S I've seen here.

Have ya cut the odd starter dog off?

I too hope it happens, hoping to have the 1-86 gear drive ready to go plus a smattering of the homelites that seem to be following me home lately. Super XL925, C71, XL102. Just to name a couple I would likely bring if they are ready lol.

Hey, did you know a lady called Cindy Jenkins and her partner Mike? they lived in Pleasant point, but she has moved back up here recently. Reckons it is a great place where u are.

Ok, I will pull the starter mechanism apart to figure out how it works and let you know. I see another Mac15 went on TM last night, lasted a few hours and then the H&S nazi's pulled it down....
