I had some good success today with the sp7-10 project. I was able to get a lot of it together. The lower brace had been broken and welded at some time in its life. I ground the weld down so it didnt look like bubble gum anymore. Put the fuel tank back together and got it on the saw. Full wrap handle and starter cover is on. I put some copper pipe over a hole in the wrap handle. Apparently a chain flew off that saw a few times. Thatll keep grime out of it. 3/4" copper pipe bout an 1" long. Had to make a carb boot bottom brace out of a busted sp81 top shroud. It went well. Its together and seal20200303_204445.jpg 20200303_204454.jpg 20200303_204520.jpg ed well. Im waiting on the tank sealant till tomorrow before i add any fuel. I used permatex fuel resistant gasket sealant goo. Its setting nicely. I hope it seals it up good. Then ill try fuel add a carb and see what happens. Heres some more pictures, So far its going good.
 
Very resourceful. Looking good (at least to me. Ha!) Which Permatex product did you use? It's getting harder and harder to keep track of all their different offerings these days. The Motoseal 1 #29132 Grey Fuel Resistant Gasket Maker is what I've found to be very effective for the tank seams. You can do a lot of tanks for a couple o' bux.

I used 85420 permatex, fuel resistant gasket dressing and sealant. Its blue and it worked for now. Time will tell though. So its done! A sp7-10. Took most of yrsterday and a hr or so today. The tank sealed and i got the rest together and it runs just fine. Did not cut yet but it looks like any other sp70/81. Not much paint on the black parts but the starter cover and clutch cover look fine to me. Sporting a 24 inch bar. I think ill play with that awhile. Its a heavy bar. But i am pleased with it. Ended up going with an sdc65 carburetor.
 
Very cool. Was going to comment on that fairlead. Nice touch. Have one on the 7-10 (along with one of Mark's dust guards). Can we assume they discontinued those fairleads as a weight reduction measure along with simply being overkill in general? Think this one is the only one I have.

Maybe, this is my #2. I have another 7-10 that has one. This dust guard is actually broken in half but it fits just fine till i hot glue another day. It was a fun project really. Even sealing the tank. It oils like crazy though. Too much in my opinion. Gotta adjust that. Its an insane amount of oil. Enough to kinda bog the chain.
 
My buna n grommets arrived today. I have enough to last me a lifetime lol. Tried one out on the 10-10 that I robbed the carb from just to see how it would work. I think this will work out fine. A little heat on the end of the line and the tygon stretches over that big barb on the carby too.

I'm going to have a go at making 1 of those roller fair leads. It won't be quite the same though obviously.

Hot glue idea was from you. And thankyou. It is one of a kind till another is built by someone. Im outa parts so it wont be me..lol. it is awesome to hear. Im gonna run it against the sp70 tomorrow. And compare. I think its gonna be fun. After i ajust the oiler. Im glad the oil pump works but geesh its too much. Oil flying everywhere.

I don't remember whether it was Ron or Brian, but he said they are really nice when you have the saw on a big log and can pull the cord straight back.

I'm not sure if it was mentioned but the fairleads don't work with Stihl starter handles

I'd strongly encourage using real Tygon F-4040-A tubing instead of just any yellow fuel line commonly referred to as 'tygon' just because it's yellow. Big difference in quality and resistance to ethanol.

That's exactly why I want to make 1 as that's how I start the big girls generally. They like a little throttle but the throttle lock gives to much and it makes me cringe and feel terrible for the saw when its stone cold and gets its head revved off until ya grab the throttle.

I actually like the older non presence lever throttle lock as it's only a little bit extra over idle

That's what I use. Actually made by saint gobain. I buy from McMaster Karr. Same place I got the grommets.

You just have to keep adding a bigger bar and chain until the oiler amount is normal.

MS- thats funny and its true. But funny. Lol

Ill get u a picture in a sec jethro. Soon as i get the dishes done. Chores first then play when the boss is around..haha
