Does anyone know what a good deal is for a NIB Stihl 441C w/ 20 or 25" bar? I ran across a couple of them. I don't really need one but I may consider if the price was good. I already have a MS 462 so a 441 is not a must, but I like saws.

Two years ago I bought a new 441C at my Stihl dealer for $839 w/ 20" bar
Around here it was mid to high $900s depending on bar size, standard model(not the R).
When it first came out it was the smoothest saw Stihl had. Imo it never caught on...all the arborists that run Stihl here that I have spoken to would rather have the 461/o46/460 or the 440.
That sounds like $161 less than I bought my last one for. I really like the MS 441. Solid saw, super smooth, good power, great air filter setup. They are a pain to work on. I’d take one into the woods before I would take an MS 462. Better power band for running the longer bars I run.

Well, the 441 has a much broader power band and doesn’t fall on its face when a big load (long bar) is put on it like an MS 462. Try putting a 28 or a 32 in harder woods on an MS 462, dawg in and pull on the rear handle. The 462 falls on its face. A 441 will pull down but keep cutting. A 20 or 25 inch bar on these won’t work either one of these very hard.
Maybe the 462 makes more peak power but a 441 is better pulling longer bars, but the MS 462 with a sharp chain will likely outperform a 441 until a 28 is slapped on and the saw is getting pulled on. I run mine with a 28 and it seems happier with it than a 462. I wouldn’t run those midget sized bars on either saw, but given the choice I’d leave the 25 on the 441.

The only difference between the 441 and the 462 is the power to weight ratio they both weigh the same but the 462 has more cc, also the 462 I believe is between 200 and $300 more brand new I think a new 441( which they don’t make anymore )is around $1000 for a new 462 is about 1200.
Brought mine in 2008 for 700 bucks out the door with a 25 inch bar. A NIb I guess it would be about 600 bucks to 700. As far as bars are concerned the 441 Sweet Spot is a 25 inch bar the 462 Sweet Spot is 28. Also go full skip chain firstly you don’t have to file as many teeth and secondly it’s not as hard on the saw . It might not throw as many noodles but it goes through the wood faster.If you can get it for$500 Id pull the trigger.
