Husky 142 - trouble shoot and rant

But I'm a bit curious on why you did not have a look at a better, "real", Husqvarna while at the service center? Simply scared off by the experiences with your 142, or was the service guy giving you to much of a hard time to be considered someone you wanted to do business with?

I'm not picking at you, but either way, I would really like to hear your reason since Husqvarna not only got in trouble having to fix your old saw, but they also lost a customer and a new deal. Could this be because it might be a bad idea for them to put their name on a product assembled by a not too highly regarded manufacturer and keep rambling "it's of the same high Swedish quality, only adjusted to Poulan's way of doing things..." whenever the quality on those saws is questioned..?

I had no problem with the service center guy giving me a hard time. In fact, after my experience of being treated like a jerk at Lowe's, I think he's exactly correct. The problem is I planned a weekend of working outdoors and ended up fussing with the saw for more hours than I spent working. This was despite having basic small engine knowledge and following the owner's manual with precision. I bought a Husky based on reputation. From what I've read, and my experience agrees, Husky has taken advantage of their name brand recognition and used it to sell a Poulan caliber product. I don't care what the product or price point is, I expect to get my money's worth. If I wanted Poulan durability I could have saved $100 and bought a $99 Poulan at Wal-mart and been just as unsatisfied with it. Even if I eventually sell the saw I'll still be out the depriciation and time. I now have close to $700 wrapped up in chainsaws. ($199 for the 142, 3 chains, 60 minutes of fuel to try to return it, etc + the cost of my new Stihl). I just thought, "why would I want to give more money to the company who has put me in this position?"

Spot on. I wish someone from Husqvarna would read this so they got to know that it's kicking their butt doing like this.

Except for the saw you bought, and its little brother, every other saw in the Husky line-up would probably have served you excellent for many years.

I wonder how many of "you" it takes to make Husqvarna realize it's costing them business...

Anyhow fire away with your new saw, and when you get the Husky back, keep it as a backup. It should at least be tuned and tested properly now, and might service you reasonably for some years. You might still get your moneys worth out of it.

I have no problem with your wiew, but the small Poulan-assambled Huskys (41, 36, 141, 136, 142, 137) are not comparable to the even cheaper "real" Poulans at all - much better engines etc.

Troll I have got to disagree with the much better engines statement. I know that they have got an EMAB crank in them and are a better engine on paper but... We no longer sell any of the above listed saws. It is very embarrassing when you sell a saw to a customer and go to get it ready for them and it won' rev up. You end up richening the carburetor way beyond normal settings to compensate for poor tolerances while the customer watches you and listens as you attempt to tune the bog out of his new saw. We find that about one in ten of these saws are pure lemons!

At first we dropped the 136/137 from our line thinking that the 142 was better. It seems to be a bit more reliable but not enough for my reputation.

36-136-41-141 have the same piston/cyl as small poulans, 142 is different.

Not what Husky says, the Husky cylinders are chromed, as far as I know, the Poulan ones are treated in a cruder way.

Mind you, this is info that turned up when someone (here at the AS) actually asked Husky, and got a pretty detailed answer, some time ago - I have never looked into the interior of those Poulan assambled Huskys myself....

CONGRATS, finally!!!!!!:rockn:

...but both the high air filter and the GB bar adds unnesessary weight....

Is the chain LG or LP, or something else? - it makes a differense regarding the smoothness......

With all these muscles weight is no problem ole feller. I ran the thing just abit ago, tant bad, tant bad at all. I did notice it puts out some fumes bigtime but I like the smell of fuel mix burning. I'll get her home and have some fun with it later.
So tell me Sawtroll is this cat bias? I've always said I likes saws, hehe

opppppppppppps

The chain is Stihl baby,33rsc72. I am very bias about my chains, nuttin but the best when it comes to chains for this ole boy...

Fine, I just love the RSC!!! :D ;)

I actually didn't think it was possible for a saw to be smoother than the 372, but I take your word for it......

my parts books show same parts numbers for the saws i mentioned. wouldn't think they would manufacture with one grade of piston/cyl and offer a cheaper grade for replacement.

GOTCHA, they are both smooth, both plenty smooth for any operator. I do think the 441 has a slight edge but thats because of that big fat behind,:hmm3grin2orange: :hmm3grin2orange:
