There were two different full wrap handlebars, one for non-brake saws and one for saws equipped with a brake. They look different, the non-brake handlebars have a tighter radius in the corners, the brake type handlebar has the more a more sweeping radius on the top corners.

For the life of me I can't get one of my clutch covers with a brake flag on this saw? Is there a specific one for it?

They made a wider wrap bar for the saws with the brake.
Do you have a link to that adapter? Any mods to the bar? How did you make it oil?

https://www.sawsuppliers.com/produc...o-d176-allows-echo-saw-to-run-stihl-bar-chainI mounted the adapter and the bar on the saw and used the bar plate to draw how far the adjustment holes needed to be filed . I used a 1/4 round file to work down towards the slot about a 1/4 or 1 file worth. Then took a dremel cut off wheel and went down through rail to intersect the original chain adjustment hole.
It oils better than on a stihl now. I think on an oem stihl bar the intersecting slots are already in the bar.
 
This thread seems quiet lately, how about some carnage?
You guys may remember my project "Scrap heap" SP81........ well it didn't even make one tank of fuel and blew up, pulled it apart tonight to see what failed.
I am going to blame the Lil Red Barn piston. The wrist pin bearing backed out of the piston and dropped its needles causing all hell to brake loose. The piston was new and came with a parts lot I purchased, the bearings where NOS. I had heard of problems with the LRB pistons but figured I'd give it a try since I had it, now my otherwise perfect cylinder is toast. Oh well, it was an experiment anyway.
Also, this is the first saw that I have actually had blow up lol.

Besides the piston did you use McCulloch bearing or did you soucre them somewhere else?
I put a LRB piston in my parts SP81 but I had to use a 1 ton press to put the bearings in as well as the pin. Now I've only got about 3 tanks through her and almost lost the decomp at the end of the 2nd tank.
Reread post sorry didn't see the nos bearings.
 
Sorry to heart of your 81's demise Kevin.I'm currently working on a Homie that I have a LRB piston for.After reading of your saw's mishap I'm leary of putting that piston in.The kit came without clips.I figured they just got lost,but when I took the original piston out of the Homie,it didn't have clips either.The pin fought me all the way to the end.The new pin fits into the piston quite sloppy,I can push it in with my fingers.I think I might be better off getting an OEM piston.

Homelite parts seem pretty readily available, I don't think I'd mess with an aftermarket piston. The wrist pins for the Mac LRB pistons are known to be undersized (I used an OEM pin) sounds like the same is true with your Homelite.

Ran across this while researching another subject and thought it may be of interest in the wrist pin discussion. Not sure how applicable it is, but may be an area of consideration when doing the mix and match among pins and bearings to accommodate aftermarket pistons. It generally wouldn't apply to the 10 series saws, but could still be an aspect of possible consideration for clearances/tolerances if nothing else. Just thought I'd toss it out there...

Next week i should get my parts back from powder coating and fi nally get my shelf queen sp81 project complete. Ive had all the parts ready except starter and clutch cover. Patiently waiting. Ive had it running already and its a good runner. Ill be sure to post pictures. And tell what parts are on it. It all started with a ebay purchase of an 850 engine listed as a 10-10s engine block.
