Not for me. I do all of my own service work, so as long as parts are available, I'm usually good to go.

Even if you do your own service, geting parts locally (dealer?) is a must. Mail order sucks - freight that's crazy for small parts and a week delay... No thanks.
I voted yes but really for me it is the relationship I have with the dealer more than if there is a mechanic out back. In the last 2 months I have broken a clutch spring on one saw and needed a new clutch on the other. The local Stihl dealer replaced the springs while the contractor waited and he had a mechanicair wrench the clutch off the 660 while I yapped with the owner. My dealer dosen't have as many parts as I would like to see him stock but maybe I just need the less used parts. I also like being able to call the shop up and order parts without having to pay first. So yeah, it's about the dealership.

I think the question was "What is the most important part of the saw buying decision?", and I would agree that a local dealer is important, it is certainly not the "most important" in my book. But that's just me.

I voted no . Reason being is that the stihl dealers in my town are idiots...all 3 of them. The only way I know I will get the right part is to call them with the part number from my online IPL's. I have to believe this isnt the norm. I will do all my own repair from now on especially after my stihl dealer told me yesterday that it takes 2 and a half hours to replace crank seals in my 026 IF the saw is tore apart ready to take seals out and put new seals in. Thats Horsecrap.

I voted no as I think that THE most important decision is THE SAW. Size, weight, shape, bar, yadda yadda. The second item in my book is the brand/dealer/support, and then price, parts availability, warantee, etc.
I am pro'lly gonna buy me a Dolmar 401 next, and there are no Dolly dealers for 100 miles of me. Issue is that there is no same class/price saw in the Stihl line. The 210-250 lineup just is not up to what I like using. Local dealer just does not have the saw I want in that size.

Dealers make no difference at all for me, with a new ms200 being 1600 nz dollars and a piston and barrel for the same being $700, im driven my where I can get the thing cheapest. Dealers, even to this day still shock me with their prices and I dont blame them for not carrying alot, but then they shouldnt be annoyed that I only show up if I cant get parts any other way.
Someone reselling US sourced parts and saws from this site to UK, Euro, Aussie and NZer buyers could do a nice little sideline.

The right saw for the intended purpose would be my #1 consideration,but then you need to be sure you can keep it going to complete its purpose, so figure how you will do that also.
