What’s your load? 80gr and a 325lead bullet is my magic load
I haven't used it for hunting, just killing rocks and shooting steel.
We've gone up to 100gr with round balls, I don't think we've used any conicals in that rifle. A friend gave it to me, and I have no idea how it was used, so I'm kinda careful with my loads.

I have a couple modern break actions that we like to load up with 150gr of powder and the big 385gr plains bullets.... that'll bruise your shoulder!

My son "built" one of the Kentucky rifle kits a few years back, I'll have to get a picture of that one.

I think people that haven't experienced black powder are really missing out on a lot of fun...

Maybe its just me but I'd rather be doing tax's than 'breaking frozen dog turds off the deck'.
Prehaps our resident tax professional MustangMike could try it and give us his professional opinion:surprised3:
Maybe I should clarify. I was standing on the deck shooting at dog turds out in the yard.

I had to dispatch a 4 legged critter the other day after dark and realized the M4 is a bit lacking for shooting in the dark.

Still waiting on the mount but I picked up this rechargeable Olight to put on it. Decided to test it out on the 22 for now.

That garage is about 100 yards down the road. Don’t worry, I took the light off the pistol before shining it down my private road.

Must say, I’m highly impressed.

I guess you gotta do what you gotta do if you want to shoot the specialty stuff.
Seems there will probably be less and less components available in the near future, so it's wise to stock up now.
Luckily, I stocked up on lots of stuff long ago, but I hate not replenishing what I use.

For example, I have over 1,000 348 bullet heads (3 different types), but none of them are available anymore, so when I use them up, that is it! Then you have to re sight the gun in and/or change your load.

I bought the 348 in the early 70s when I was in college in Rochester NY. NY had banned rifle hunting for deer in most of the State (until they changed it a few years ago) and back then every hardware store sold guns and ammo.

I used to go around and ask if they had any 348 ammo. Often there would be 2 or 3 dusty boxes that would come out, and the guy would say "I don't know what these things should go for now, but they been here so long I'll give em to ya for what is marked on the box". I picked up lots of boxes of Remington and Winchester for about $6 to $8 a box back then, so I will never run out of brass in my lifetime.

Almost all of my 220 Swift brass is Norma ... they used to be the only ones making it. Their load was very hot (but very accurate). It pushed a 50 grain bullet at 4,110 FPS. The problem was their bullets were too hard and would just pencil hole through woodchucks. After I started loading it with Hp bullets, they didn't move after they were hit!

Guess I should share my stupid moment. Didn't have kids and I was pretty into buying old cheap military guns and sporterizing them. Has a mosin nagant. The dar action worked super hard and was gritty feeling. So I disassembled the gun, broke out the lapping compound and proceeded to bed in the bolt to its ramp. After about 500000000 (im sure im exaggerating) times of cycling the action it felt pretty good. So I cleaned it up, and stuck a round in it. Went to close the bolt and bang. Shot a hole through the bottom of the gun cabinet. Couldn't hear right for a little while after that. Surprised the heck out of me.i had the trigger group out so I wasn't expecting it to go off. Soon as I closed the bolt it came off the ramp and firing pin slammed front without the trigger to hold it back. Sure was gald no one was around.
I've had an unintentional discharge before as well. Stupid Operator Error on my behalf. I say stupid because the arm wasn't pointed in a safe direction. Fortunately, no body in the empty parking lot to be standing in front of it!! 😣 🤦 Firearms safety rule number one before anything else!
ALWAYS KEEP THE GUN POINTED IN A SAFE DIRECTION!
I was 14, my dad witnessed it and was not at all happy!
Experience gained by exercising poor judgement that day I'll tell you!

When my two older brothers and I were six seven and eight. My dad took us into his room and pointed out the loaded .44RM under the head shelf. At the head of the bead. Then explained how dangerous and what it was capable of. He did this about twice a year since I can remember until each one of us reached ten years old. He also explained the consequences if we ever stepped foot in the room while he was gone. He always kept the door closed when he and ma were at work. One day it was cracked open. I snuck in opened the little door on the head board compartment and touched the pistol handle with my little index finger then quickly shut the little door and ran out of the room as fast as I could. I never told anyone about it until now! To this day I STIHL don't know why I did it knowing the rath that my father would bring to bare when it came to firearm dangers, the room being strickly off limits to us kids and breaking the strictest rule in the house of trespassing into that room without permission? I really don't know why I chose to do it, and because of it. I don't think I could ever leave a loaded gun easily accessable in a house with children in it.

Were it not for the Law, we would not know we are Law breakers. Read about that somewhere before ;).

Speaking of .44RM's I bought this 629 Classic over 25 years ago. A bear gide I went to school with put over 20 hrs into the hand made Sitka Spruce burrel grip for me at the cost of next to nothing. What a great friend! 👍

The nickel coated cartridge is a Federal Premium 300gr hard cast.
The standard brass cartridge is an Alaska Backpacker Ammo Company 320gr hard cast.

I have a very early 29-5 classic with the 5" barrel and unfluted cylinder. May be the most accurate revolver I have ever owned.

Nice Pistol!👍 Very Nice!
Nice Shot placement too!
Kid looks like a Shooter! 😉
My 629 is also very accurate.
More so than I am with it! 🤣

How old would you say yours is?

First snake I saw on my property and I had a close call with it. I was walking toward the outside corner of my barn and he was on the other side heading my way. We both hit the corner at the same time and I had to misstep to keep from stepping on him, lost my balance and fell down.
The only handgun I owned at the time was a Ruger Security Six that I bought used in the 70's. Shot around 15 foot away in a kneeling position with full wadcutter ammo while he was going through some tall brush. Lucky shot I think? Big sucker, 5' long and almost thick as a beverage can in the middle.
