The girl that posted it was being lectured that she should have reported it instead of posting on the internet. She said there was a PG&E truck stopped there with the driver staring at it, why do I need to report it?
I've given up on them addressing the service drop attached to the trees...I figure when the tree finally rots sufficiently to fall down, they'll put in a pole.

and they wonder how the forest fires get started! gzz......

They even shut off the residential power during big wind events in the summer...problem is, they don't shut down transmission lines and virtually all of the major recent electrical-caused fires have been started by transmission lines.

Even more infuriating, is the crappy line clearance contractors they employ. The line clearance guys don't know the first thing about arboriculture, or they're intentionally doing shoddy work, but they create more problems than they solve. They top all the conifers near the power lines...when you top a conifer, you just create a bunch of co-dominate tops.

The co-doms are extremely weak, much more so than if they just let the tree grow in its natural state. I agree in line clearance, but it should assess if a tree is actually a threat, and if it is, remove it instead of just moving the hazard 10 years into the future. They did a bunch of that on the front of my property. I ended up removing those trees myself, at the expense of my own labor.

The ground was recently eroded out from the base of the pole, my guess is they did that temporarily because there are bigger problems to handle first.

I don't measure rakers. If the saw is not cutting fast enough afer being sharpened, I'll take em down a touch.

If the saw grabs too much, I won't touch em for a while (several sharpening's).
Same here. Dad taught me and like @chipper1 said, when the get shiny give 'em a couple of swipes.

Let's talk raker height on chains. Tell me what you guys would run for these saws using full chisel chains? 550XP, 372XP, 395XP. TIA
@JimR it shouldn't be a surprise to any of the guys and gals on this thread that I wood run from those saws back to my Stihls. Carry on. :hi:

I know from my own experience that when cutting a 30 - 36 inch Oak or Ash tree using my 372XPOE saw with a 24 inch bar versus a 395XP with a 36 inch bar using the same type full chisel chain that there is a complete world of difference between the two saws. I'll take the 395XP over the 372XP any day. I don't have a saw between these two in size. That 395XP that I use sometimes is moving on. That is why I bought the 394XP yesterday.
The 394 has 1/2 hp more than the 395 non EPA .

Rakers usually 25-35 all depends on ur cutting, to aggressive and ur wasting time , unless ur playing around with a big cc saw , but a smooth cutting chain is a fast cutting chain , It all comes down to the filing and or grinding, knowing what ur doing and why ur doing it for , but it’s fun to run low rakers on a big ported saw , and chew some wood 👍

I'll be the first to admit I'm ignorant when it come to talking about saws. What's the difference between the 394 and the 395? And why did you get rid of the 395?

I agree with Chipper, I don't need a large saw either. But it would be fun to have one to do some milling. Especially at the price you got that saw for.

None of us in our family have ever done the DNA test...my Grandmother has always said that if we do the test, the authorities will use it to uncover the serial killers in our family. I'm a pretty strange dude, but some of my family is wayyy out there.

Just from what I know about my lineage, mostly Irish, followed by German. A smattering of English and Polish.
My sister took one a couple months back just for kicks. After a lifetime considering ourselves Irish since we have an Irish last name and descendants in the family tree that came from Ireland, the test shows 0% Irish in our DNA makeup. Go figure.

i got the same issues with the country elec co-op! their tree line contractors want to just tear up the scenery around the trees close to lines now! they did a P-Poor job last time. just left all their bucket drop on one of my near pasture fence lines. i could see it browning! as i heated up, too! after a day of seeing that mess, i belly-ached so loud to the elec cop-op they sent some bosses out and a lady arborist! they agreed with me... and i got a comp clearing of a tree line close to that fence i had been wanting cleaned up... 7 tree cutters towards the end, to get all the comp drop cleaned up. and i made a deal with one of the sub jefes.... slipped him some green leaves... and now he owes me some more tree trimmings. 5 trees to be exact... other day he said he was trying to sched his crew my area to do a wrap on it all! :sweet:

sometimes, it is true!: the squeaky wheel does get the grease!! 😃

Average 40:1 depending on the % of sugar content. I’ve had 25:1 at times I haven’t checked the last batch of sap but it was averaging 3.% so he may get a little over a gallon

But he does on average 500 gallons of syrup he sells it
Our trees are red maple not sugar maple so we run like 50-1 but that's a guess. I never get an accurate gallon count. I still have last years syrup. I did tap late this year, last weekend was the start. I guess I did it because I have the equipment and love to be out there.

Geez you guys quit drooling all over the huskies.
Here's one for you, even has those old school crappy stihl handlebar angles 😆. I liked being able to suggest a jred to a stihl guy because many were so accustom to the feel of that 90⁰ handlebar angle.
Rest in peace jred.

Here's what I was cutting with yesterday.
I'm running a jonsered 2260(equivalent to the husky 560 sold in Europe, its like our 562 except with a small bar mount, so its a bit lighter with a bar mounted) with a husqvarna x-cut chain thats about half way worn and has been hand filed, both the rakers and the cutters. Its well tuned to the saw wood species (green, red oak) and my cutting style, I use bore cuts quite a bit.
if I was running it on a stock 372 I'd leave it as is, modded I'd run an 8 pin sprocket so it would still bore cut smoothly, a 394/5, I'd use a 10 pin 🤣.
Notice at 3:50 to 4:05 I made 3 cuts that I progressively added more pressure, if you added another file stroke or two off the rakers for each cut made that's approximately how the saw would buck, although it wouldn't be able to bore cut without kicking back in the cut.
