dont know,, it said 404 error....................
just some computer talk... ;)

In computer network communications, the HTTP 404, 404 not found, 404, 404 error, page not found or file not found error message is a hypertext transfer protocol standard response code, to indicate that the browser was able to communicate with a given server, but the server could not find what was requested.

A weed control plan that actually works great: Newsprint.

You can lay it out in layers, then cover with mulch. Weeds don't grow through it, and the newsprint eventually decomposes with no mess. Now some folks might object to the ink on the paper being introduced to their garden. I don't know about that, but it works great for weed control.

Alternative ideas would be the rolled brown paper used to mask areas for spray painting, rolled paper for table tops at church socials... Any kind of paper works pretty well for one year. Water drips through slowly, too.
i'd like a weed control plan that actually works!!!

when i was going to U of W (WA) worked for Hilton Inns out by Sea-Tac... and we newspapered the sprawling beds. work i was totally bored with! 4 pm all but never came around. lol. i try cardboard, i try newspaper, i try plastic... i try mulch. they sneak in all the time! and now a days, seeing strains never seen before. here in town a thin bermuda-like runner weed. and up along the county line same thing. only a grass. all but impossibile to get out. then dy, and r ugly long tan stands. can be proliofic!

but we try.

but they r inching...

Tilled and hilled my taters this week. Also planted 8 rows of white polific corn for making cream corn. Not sure I will even plant any sweet corn. I ordered a small pack of seed, but when I recieved it I realized there wasnt enough seed in the pack to even fill one row. If I can find some local, I might try some later. I put my tomatoe and pepper plants inside last night. We have frost warnings the next 2 nights so I aint taking any chances. Cabbage is just starting to make those little balls of leaves in the middle. Onions and garlic are looking good. I just wish I could figure out how to grow asparigus, 2 year attemp and all I got so far are little whispy stalks.

Mudd, what if any fertilizer on the asparagus? I'm guessing you planted crowns/ roots. Variety? You need to let the stalks grow until they turn brown in the winter. I don't cut mine off until early spring. Most recommendations say not to cut any spears until the 2nd year. IMO 3 years is better to give the roots time to store enough energy to produce nice spears. You also need to watch for asparagus beetles. My little patch gives me 10 lbs every day and at peak maybe 20. It's 26 years old. Headin out to cut shortly.

I usually just put on 10/10/10. But I do till 0/46/0 and potassium sulfate in the soil before planting. I will use 10/20/20 on my taters and mix miracle grow in the watering can for a nitrogen boost. We planted our asparigus from seed last year that we harvested from my sisters plants, and didnt expect much out of them. We didnt cut the stalks for winter. we had a very hard freeze this winter and it killed pretty much every perennial we had in pots. I did buy one crown this year and split it into two root balls. Its up about a foot high. We actually have one plant coming up in a seed tray, dont know where it came from or how it got there. We also have a bunch of Jobs Tears volunteers in our seed trays.

It's pretty hardy as mine has survived nearly 0 temps. More than likely the seeds you harvested were from a variety called Mary Washington. It's an old time variety. My dad did the same as you and raised his from saved seeds from an old plant. My thoughts are that it's a more spindly plant than the newer hybrid male varieties. It may take 3 years till you can harvest. Your fertilizer should be good for it. Jersey knight is the kind I grow. Seed are cheap and it's an all male type that gives you big tender spears.
