I know this is early. With the weather we are having I don't know how often I will be at the computer in the next couple months, and with the economy the way it is, we would like to give as much notice as possible. Sounds like some will becomming from Or, Wa, Ca, and perhaps even Ak.(per e-mail talk). So it seems that the most notice possible the better.

The dates that would work best for us are in this order. All in May for hopes of the best weather.

2nd weekend of May on the 9th & 10th

3rd weekend of May on the 16th & 17th

Last resort, first weekend of May 2nd & 3rd

Note: This is probably not going to meet the standard set at Bookerdogs first annual PNW GTG. The wood will be different, going to try and get a soft and hardwood mix, and it will be set up different. Also don't know about the size of wood yet. No spare house to put folks up in either.

That said it will be as much fun and enjoyment as you/we all make it to be.

You must be warned though, this isn't Vegas. What happens at a GTG doesn't always stay at the GTG. Sometimes photographic proof goes with the stories and tales aswell. Just keep this in the back of you mind while you read the next paragraph.

However we do have farm animals and a large dog, maybe two by then. Do with them what you may. I will warn you though, the pigs bite at times and their kinda squeely, The dog likes it when you pet him from the rear legs forward. The goats kick and the cows, well if you're man enough for the cows you'll find out soon enough.

I will do some looking on accomadations. Spirit Mtn. Casino is about 10 min away. The rest are 20 to 30 min away and I will get there info up when I can. We have lots of room for campers if you like. Room for a couple trailers, 5th wheels, motorhomes or what have you. If you camp in a nonsealed(drafty) unit I would suggest up wind or well away from the pigs.

My Mrs. only has one humble request, no fall down drunkeness if it will lead to any type of altercation.

All depends on my work schedule Owl, but as of right now I plan on going, which ever weekend. Shoot, may not even have anywork, may be trying to sell all my saws at the GTG.

Say it ain't so. Some day the feds will see the light and open all the closed ground. Then you will need your tools of the trade. If not keep'em so you can show & tell your grand kids how things used to be. One feller around here has a ancient 50" cannon he plasma cut into a walking cane/stick. That is something to see and boy o boy does he like to talk about it and tell you all his tales. That ole boy has some history behind him

Well on the bright side our town is looking for someone to fire up the old saw shop. He quit about 6mo ago and started building barns and other handyman stuff. I think that you could fill that need nicely.

Hang out a shingle. " Slingers super saws and repair "

Hopefully you will be able to make it. At the same time hopefully you will be burried in work also.

The weekend with the most votes wins. Hopefully people will only vote if they want/plan to attend.

well, the groupie won't be able to attend if it's the weekend of May 9th... but i know slowp has concerns on May 2nd weekend... she's much more fun then i am, tho, so ignore my votes!

however, maybe if i send Daughter #2 a fancy graduation gift instead of attending her college commencement, she'd forgive me??? think that would work???

Didn't mean to sound like Calvin, just pun. I am doing and will be doing just fine.
Thanks...

What's the weather forecast? ;)

Foggy around 36 degrees with a slight chance of snow showers in the morning hours, changing over to sleet, then freezing rain, and then rain rain. Clearing later around noon, then warming up to about 80 degrees in the early afternoon. Then there is a chance of thunderstorms in the late afternoon and clearing by early evening, with a warm front moving in before sunset with high torpical humidity. It should be a great sunset, with a light scattering of ash from Mt. St. Helens. Breezy after sunset, hopefully that will scatter the ash to a bright: a) full moonlit sky May 9th, b) half moon on the 17th, c) and a moonless night the 24th.

I HATE to plan, must be why I do what I do. I'll just go whatever the weekend. So, besides the casino, are the closest motels in Salem? Lincoln City? And do we have to drive on the casino highway of doom? Where all the crashes happen? Scwary. :)

The natives on the west side of the Cascades are adapted to the climate. To level out the playing field, visitors might want to start getting used to wearing a pair of these: pie eating, etc....

later is better for me.. 3rd weekend.

What's the weather forecast? ;)

Me too and if the weather is half as good as last year We'll all be happy I guess.

Snowing in London right now. Well... I call it snow, but it's more sleet. Still 1/8 of an inch of wet slush on our road and some idiot managed to drive over the road sign:bang:
Careful, or I'll take that as an invitation:cheers:
Come on over. I'm sure you could carry on the 084, or if you don't fly you could strap it to the top of the car and run a coat hanger from the bar to the antenea for better reception through the mountains.

Better directions. From Canada.

I-5 south through Washington. I-5 south into Oregon to Salem about an hour from the boarder bridge to Salem. From Salem Hwy 22 west to Hwy 18 About 40 min from Salem. West on Hwy 18 to the truck Scales about 2 min from Hwy 22. From there I would need more time for more detailed directions. That gets you with in 10 to 15 min of the exact location. More exact directions will come as things get closer.

Mapquest will get you to Willamina, but it WILL NOT get you here. From the town of Willamina it is about 15 min to get here.

Places to stay

* Spirit Mtn Casino abt 10 min from here. 1-888-668-7366

* Lincoln City abt 30 min from here.

Lots of ocean front places to stay in this town

I would recomend the Sea Gull. I know the owners and they run top shelf.
Prices can vary drastically in this town. Call around. I would avoid the Edge Cliff

* McMinville abt 20 min from here.

Comfort in On Stratus is less than a year old and helps the hospital with accomidations for patients families. Another top shelf operation.

Type in hotels and the city you would like. That will get you more places to call that you can shake a stick at.

Don't know anything about Salems stays. If you stay there make sure you are as close to the river as possible. We are abt 40 min from the river. Salem can take up to 30 min to cross if you are on the other side of town.

I would go a different way myself. He is just the other side of Sheridan, and I would take the more direct route through McMinville down 99W. That I-5 freeway route is a good one for the brothers coming from sunny Kalifornia. By the time you get through Salem I do not think it is any faster than 99W from the north though. Here are some places to stay around there:

As for all the casino madness, it is hard to get away from them in OryGun any more though. They are everywhere. Other stuff near there worth checking out, great wineries, nice parks, good hiking trails, the Oregon coast, and big trees. Some of the oldest and biggest Doug firs are not very far south of there in the Valley of the Giants (600 year old ents). Amity and the surrounding area produces some of the best Pinot Noir in the world. There are lots of wine tasting places along 99W but they all chage for tasting until you get around Amity.
