Your right about not having to tear the saw down for a pressure test . I was thinking ahead of myself . You just about have to tear the saw down to find the air leak. The copper tube is a good idea, I might give it a try next 25 or whatever clamshell I come across that doesn't run right..
 
New carb arrived today. I adjusted it to a little over 1 turn out on the H and L screws and put it in the saw. Pulled the rope a couple of times, let the choke off and it fired right up! A little more adjusting and it runs like a new one. Guess the problem was the bad carb that was on it and the equally bad carb I tried on it first, both Zamas. I replaced it with a Walbro WT286, if I remembered that number right..
