OK here it is. My first build thread. Layout might be shotty. But it's a build thread.

As some may recall I wanted a project saw. And turned to AS and man did y'all provide. Still buying more for future build threads
But I bought a 038 super for this one. So let's jump in.

The 038 super arrived and first impression was lack luster. She had a rough service life.. packed full of saw dust and bar oil everywhere..

I did a quick overlook of shape and tested for spark.. was none.
Then tested compression 135ish psi. Good to go. So I started to tear it apart and clean it.. soon discovered the problem as to no spark.
Here's were I'm at now. Mufflers off fixen to be modded. All covers are off and cleaned.. fixin to pull brake cover, carb, flywheel, clutch, and jug.
Thinking Bout 038 super to 038 mag conversion. Anyone got sources of used OEM 038 mag cylinder head? Will be using meteor piston with caber rings.
Onto pictures!IMG_20190102_180836.jpg IMG_20190102_180847.jpg IMG_20190102_180856.jpg IMG_20190102_180903.jpg IMG_20190102_180911.jpg IMG_20190102_181102.jpg IMG_20190102_181151.jpg

Been a little bit since I did any work to the project. But I got around to it tonight

Pulled the brake assembly cover to figure out why the brake dosent work. Instead greeted by alot of filthyness. . Got all of it cleaned.
Gotta remove clutch. Think I'm gonna split case and replace bearings.

IMG_20190110_203647.jpg got the rear handle separated from motor and all cleaned out. Amazed how much crud it had built up.

Next I decided to tackle the faded plastics. Wet sanded but still not happy with results. Might try orange rit dye.
Gotta order parts. Need ignition system.. brake handle.. full gasket's and bearings.. intake boot. Carb rebuild. Kit.
Was wandering bout 044 intake boot n carb? Will this work?
Gotta order 52 mm jug as well. Caber rings..
Anyone have experience with the 044 intake boot?

This 038 must have had a rough life.
Think I'm going to media blast all the metal. Prime repaint and 2 part clear..
Replace all bearings gaskets and intake boot..
Turn it into a magnum. And hope to bring new life into it. Anyone with advice on any thing related please share. Splitting case and replacing bearings/seals is new territory for me

My question. If I keep wet sanding can I expect better results. Or is this the best I can expect?
Still gotta sand with 2000 grit. Then maybe 3k as well.. I feel 3k grit might be unneeded. But will help remove sanding scratches.
And I'm sanding with parts fully submerged in water.

I was actually just looking threw my dupi-color catalog and saw a carbon fiber lookalike paint system.. thinking about doing that to the plastics just for something unique. I love the orange though.

House warden is gone for the night. Picked up some essentials while in town. Time to get some work towards reassembly started instead of disassembly! Updates to follow!!!

Been doing some painting on the clutch cover and recoil cover. Useijh the Ford tractor light gray. Can't believe how well it matches

Onto some worth while updates. So this showed up yesterday IMG_20190129_170236.jpg
52mm top end kit. Farmertec. 2mm bigger then super. So I got some work to do. Exhaust port matches muffler. Bolt holes for head to case don't. Was ecexpected
Currently awaiting arrival of the 020T and bottem end parts for 038. Once they show up. Work shall flow until completion.. at which time the 024 av should be here to start new thread. Thinking hybrid 024/026..

Thinking hybrid 024/026..
I haven't confirmed, but the little bit I've looked into it, it looks like a regular 024 won't work with an 026 cylinder. The stroke is too short. If your 024 is a super you'll be good to go. I've got a nice red lever 026 jug I'd love to mount on the project 024, but it's a regular. Maybe I mis-undertood what I read though...
