I've been debating on getting another 70cc saw, 044 or 046 or the newer MS versions. I really like my 038 Mag but whenever I have a job for it, I just grab my 660. They are that close in weight and the 660 just 'feels' better.

So anyway, I'm looking for opinions on 044 and 046 saws. Which one is better and why?

if your going new id recomend ms461, if used up to 28 inch bar a 44 is fine 32 or 36 bar id go 46

If you're looking for a significant weight difference, the 044/440 is lighter than the 046/460 and, 71cc vs 76cc displacement. It would be hard to argue against either.

Definitely looking for a weight difference. I haven't put either saw on a scale but I swear my 660 with a 28" bar is lighter than my 038 with a 25" bar. And wieght being so close, the 660 gets it done faster.

Maybe I should just put a 25" bar on my 026 . . . :msp_scared:

Just sayin.... :)

Even though a MS441 would be absolutely wonderful, my budget dictates finding a 044. Side jobs are pretty dry right now :msp_mad:

If you have an 026 and a 660, a good 3-saw plan would add an 044 or 440 (441C-M new if you're working it all day). Don't need the extra grunt of an 046/460 because you have the 660. The 044/440 has the higher power/weight ratio that you're missing in the 038 Mag.

That folks is probably the best three saw plan based on Stihl. The 026 can be replaced by any of the small clean up saws. I prefer the 018C myself. My three saw Stihl plan, if needed, would be 018C, 361 and 660 but I'm weird and have no agenda. I must say my buddy's fresh 025/250 build I did the work up on has found a place in the truck for next week. It needs to burn some go go juice. It's a fun saws with 14 on it.

Thank you for all the replies!

I really doubt I will get rid of my 038. I just like it. 028 is in the same category.

I'm really happy with my 026, It got a port job but I need to do some compression work on it. MS660 will get a port job down the road.

Now to find a nice 044/MS440 that needs some work . . . :dizzy:
