This saw came to me as pretty much scrap. Hole blown in the case. Big end bearing on the crank was GONE, literally not there. Piston was ugly. Machine was missing parts.

Well, today, it lives again. Thanks to @Laslabjohn for the rare shrouds and NOS metal nameplate for the starter. Thanks @glock37 for the besutiful powedercoating job on an 044 crankcase. And thanks to anyone else I'm forgetting who had a hand in breathing new life into this machine!

Here's what was done. Crankcase replaced with a servicable 044 case, powdercoated by Glock37.

New crank bearings (OEM. NTN japan).

Used 12mm 044 crankshaft.

New piston and rings in the OEM non-decompression cylinder, and all gaskets and seals (all OEM).

damn near new, hard to find brick-red 044 shrouds.

New fuel and impulse hoses (OEM).

Original Zama carb cleaned w Amsoil Powerfoam and given a fresh OEM Zama carburetor kit.

New handlebar, sprocket cover, and starter assembly w the uber rare NOS metal, riveted Stihl nameplate.

Aftermarket dual port muffler (the super nice ones i ranted and raved about in another post).

Im sure theres a few things im forgetting.

I'll post photos of it's original condition in a moment, but here's the nearly finished product (needs an oil pump and a brake handle bolt)

Hope you guys like looking at it as much as I enjoyed building it!

Damn Erik you are the 044 master lol.... You can bring these back to life, and make it seem so easy!!!!!

Once again very good job my friend!!!!!

@Khntr85 ...i can revive any machine like that... But the 044/440 being my favorite machine, I'm far more likely to invest the time, money, and love into that particular model. But believe me, it can be done w any of them! I'm currently rebuilding a brick-red 026 as a limbing saw. I'll post a write up on it once it's finished as well :)
