Good idea to have checked here before you bought it,,,
You were given excellent advice and it steered you away from a big headache,,,

This forum is a blessing,,, and you were blessed by the knowledge here,,,

Don't mind Niko, AKA Sawtroll,,, he comes across a bit on the cranky side sometimes, but otherwise is a good dude,,,

I'm glad you listened to the good advice and avoided A POS,,,

Alright boys. Everyone take it easy.

Here's your answer:

up to $100 - 066 basketcase
$100-$150 - 066 with a smoked cylinder and missing parts
$150-$200 - 066 with a smoked cylinder, has all parts but not great cosmetically
$200-$250 - 066 OEM p/c good, non-running, seller is unsure why, rest of parts are there
$250-$300 - 066 OEM p/c good, running but with 'carb' problems
$300-$350 - 066 running, cosmetics aren't great
$350-$400 - 066 running, cosmetics are good, aftermarket parts have been used for a rebuild
$400-$450 - 066 running, cosmetics are mediocre, all OEM
$450-$600 - 066 all OEM, cosmetically good
over $600 - it better be all OEM and ready to rock

This is the best I can remember from the past couple years of watching fleabay. I'm sure my numbers and descriptions aren't perfect, but it's a damn good start and I just saved you a bunch of learning, which took me about 3 years or so to attain. Enjoy.
I agree- these prices are fairly close to the prices here in the N.W.. Now of days, people will tend to want to build 2 saws instead of the one to run and the one for parts deal. which i agree w/. Good used parts can be at a premium for some saws, The 066-660 series saws can be top performers, like the 394,395xp series. I for one- like it that we can talk prices or trade values on here. It has saved me a wealth of time and not to mention poor investments. If the 'Hag' ever wanted to re-do a line he could have said "when a Sthil and Husky would last ten yrs. like they should":rockn: LOL

Sorry, but I hate the "what's the saw worth threads", for a number of reasons! :taped:

On some forums, "money talk" isn't allowed at all - but a total prohibition likely wouldn't work on this one, because of the sponsors....

Well, the $ issue is an interesting topic. The great thing about this hobby is that there is something for everyone at every price point including free.

As for the certain forum you are talking about. The moderator of that site is also a saw collector, and I suspect his "no money talk" policy is there in part so that he can jump in on rare or interesting saws privately without others letting the cat out of the bag on the real value.

Not much on the outside is in good condition. I was thinking offering him $200, which was on par with one of those last few suggestions. Air filter, top and clutch cover are all cracked.

Couple years late but hello from 2022! What would y’all pay for this 066 red switch today??
