Wish there was white oak here where I live. A guy gave me a pickup load of old white oak 6x6s that I cut to stove lenghths and burned this winter. Red fir and tamarack are good firewood but that hardwood really holds a fire.

We really have a good variety around here. The woods that we are in now have a lot of Elm and Sugar Maple. We only take the dead Oak.

I'll take those any day of the week. Got to love the sound of a big oak slamming the ground. Never get tired of hearing it.

Sugar maple is really Hard maple if you go about it correctly. If there was dead hard maple in them woods I would not pass it up.

I would rather cut and split hard maple then elm. It's in the same category as oak if you ask me.

Nope, snow has been melted away for a little while now. Still soft in the woods but not muddy.

Sugar maple is really Hard maple if you go about it correctly. If there was dead hard maple in them woods I would not pass it up.

Ya, I would rather split Sugar (Hard) Maple also. They both burn well though.
