I have an old disc chipper. A Gravely Pro Chip 495 Perkins turbo diesel with 108hp.

It’s been great but finding parts is a nightmare as its been discontinued for a long time and not very popular to begin with.

Its a 12inch but I can chip 20+ inch logs. It throws chips fairly far too.

I’m curious about these newer chippers. I’ve noticed they are usually a lot less hp.

Does the smart auto feed system make better use of lower HP?

Also how well does the Vermeer shoot chips? It being a drum style?

It would be great to have a newer model that I can get parts and knives for easily. But I’m wondering if I would be downgrading.

Would also be nice to lose some weight. My chipper weighs 8000lbs which can be a pain when trying to tow up steep driveways

I see a 2017 Vermeer BC

Search for an older model with the pre-emission 85HP Cummins Turbo Diesel.

Autofeed senses engine rpm, so hard, larger pieces will take longer to chip.

Since the BC1000XL is a drum chipper I would be cautious about overloading that could affect drum balance.

Vermeer does not service the drum, replace only for $$$$.
