I've been gone awhile (actually just tired of talking about wood and saws). I rarely read or hear on this forum about Jonsered 2171 saws. I've had a variety of saws in my life (mostly Stihl, Husqvarna and Jonsered) and this little saw is the best firewood saw I have ever used. I know this is kinda like starting a Ford vs. Chevy argument which isn't what I want to do (been reading all that crap on here for a long time). I have a ported 395 which I use if I have to but my favorite is my 2171. Anyone else like that saw?

Nearly bought one a few years ago, but the 441 was a lot less $$.

Would like to give one a go, but I haven't found one in my price range yet.

I do think they are sharp looking saws.

Jonsered's distribution is a bit spotty. They are very common in certain parts of the country, but don't exist in others. Seen a few old ones around here, but I don't think there has been a dealer in this area for many years.

I called on one last week (Kaw Valley in Lawrence, KS) with a 24 in bar they quoted me $750 (also quoted me $735 for Dolmar 7300) . Called a Stihl dealer for 441 with in 24 in bar and I was quoted about $100 more. Neither had the saw in stock so I would have to order sight unseen. I thought the 2171 was essentially the same saw as oft revered 372 with slight ergonomic changes.

It's been at least 3 years ago, but it seems the 441 was $50 to $75 less.

I already had good luck with the Stihl brand and didn't think it was worth it to switch.

It could be the local Stihl dealer was giving me a good number and, he was about 1/2 an hour closer.

What do you guys have mostly there, Stihl?

I have one and they are a good saw. That was my primary saw until I got my 7900 Dolmar.
Now it is just a backup to the 7900.

Never used a Dolmar saw before (don't even know where there is a dealer here in Michigan). But if you use that saw over a 2171 it must be a good saw.

I almost bought one but I figured it was too close in performance to my 044. So I ended up buying a 2159.

It is basically the same saw as the Husky 372xp.

Yeah but it's the 372's much sexier twin sister. Straight handle or not Troll you have to admit she's a beauty of a saw. Merry Christmas Troll.

Yeah, a bit of Husky, but we've lost two Husky dealers in three years. Had one a mile from my office, but they dropped the line, had one a mile from my house and they went out of business. Now the closest ones are 40 miles from me. Just 3 left in the KC area, but one just brought in the full line of saws since summer.

Lost my Stihl dealer in town, but they added another in the town over, but they are pretty clueless. So the closest Stihl dealer I wish to do business with is 15 miles from here or my office. FANTASTIC dealer though, Sladek's in Independence for any locals. I'll plug them because they earn it. With an 066, most of them have to order parts in for me anyway.

Now the big full service Husky guy who just brought all the saws in only stocks a minimal parts inventory at this point, but has decided that I'm serious enough (owning 3 Huskies) that he will special order for me without prepayment, and will even mail the stuff to my house. The prices appear to be right about MSRP, which beats my closest Stihl dealer who is MSRP +50% in most cases on smaller parts, plus makes me pay shipping, and wait for their regular order. About as customer non-service as you can get. Only use them in emergencies now, but as I said, they have to order anyway and Sladeks will order on a phone call and have a better chance of having it in stock that day.

I'm surprised there is a Jonsered dealer in Lawrence. I know they have a Dolmar dealer and at least on Stihl dealer.

Its ported and I love it even the straight handle. The air box plastic bit is smaller than a 372 so it seems smaller and more nimble.
I've never had a filtration problem.
I have had numerous screw back out and the chain tensioner replaced twice and the safety "palm" trigger on the handle break and an air shroud on the recoil break and jam the recoil..

I've never had anything happen to my 7900

but I'll pick it up before my 7900.
