Bought 2 parts saws on fleabay a while ago. The jug cleaned up nice-no scoring. I replaced all the gaskets, bearings, seals, fuel line, filter, piston, and carb. Also installed an hd air filter. Was able to reuse the cylinder, clutch, crankshaft, flywheel, and muffler. Pressure tested at 150+. Still have to mod the muffler. I got a 288 deflector for that. I'm thinking of running a 24" bar. I spent way too much on this, but learned a lot. What to do next?

I have had a few that I invested too much also, my first one was also a 272xp. Sounds like you pretty much have it all under control and that saw will like the 24", could actually pull 28-32" if needed.

I've never ported before, but would it benefit me to smooth out the casting lines and polish the ports?

Wouldn't hurt a thing as long as you got the jug off. :msp_wink:

I have never ported a saw either but I have been told to leave the intake rough because it will help the fuel mix better. Stumpy would know a lot more about that than I would.
