My first couple of attempts at milling were with a 272xp, 28" bar and 24" Alaskan. It didn't take long to figure out that the 272xp wasn't the best choice for milling, so I bought an 066 and added a WP BB kit. I run 36" bar and cut up to 30", but it works the saw pretty hard. I paid less $$ than you're talking about for a lightly used 3120xp with the unlimited coil and 30" bar. It might be a bit heavy for bucking and felling, but it has enough grunt.
