550xp bearings

I'm replacing the bearings in a 550xp. I just ordered a kit on ebay that had the gaskets and bearings together, but their were two bearings and 1 seal, not 2. From what I can tell the seal that I have goes to the flywheel side. Does the PTO side not need a seal? Both bearings are open on one side. I would think the open side would face out and need a seal, or can I turn the PTO bearing around and have the open side face the crankshaft.
