I picked up a few saws from a buddy with a tree service recently. I've been going over them slowly. I got a remanufactured mccollouch 2014 I think, it just says fr 2.0 needs a new flywheel key carb kit fuel lines etc. A old stihl 031AV so far I'm doing carb and fuel lines. And lastly a husqvarna 562xp thats locked up. Ive heard the 562's had an issue with the ring locator pin coming lose. I think that nay be the case with this one. I looked through the exhaust and intake and all I saw was one faint line. I tried freeing it with atf fluid and other lubricants to no avail. So, I tried to pull the cylinder but it will only move a quarter inch or so up and down. There isn't anything poking into the intake or exhaust. Is this reason to think my locator pin or ring could be caught in the transfer?

I'm far from an expert but your suspicion is probably correct.

I think it's only early 562s that suffered from that issue.

On a positive note a top end from husky isnt crazy expensive. I just priced one out up here in canada and I wasnt shocked by the price.

Right. But how the heck do i get the jug off haha. Maybe whack it with a rubber mallet while pulling? Or take the transfer covers off? Ive only rebuilt 1 saw before and it was pretty straight forward so this will all be a learning experience for me

Taking the transfer covers off may be a good idea to see where if the pin is stuck.

I've only rebuilt a handful of saws so I'm sure someone with more experience will be along.

My 562 is sitting in a box waiting for me to get the parts to rebuild it. Mine will be a top ro bottom job as the bearing races broke and got sucked through the transfers and wore a big groove into the cylinder.

Damn. I know I need to check the bearings on this thing too, I've heard they are also problem areas. Evidently if you have an earlier 5 bolt case model they often develop leaks in the case as well.

My saw was killed due to heat. Top end looked minty, spark plug was golden brown etc.

Whom ever blew it up used a dull chain and got the PTO side really hot to the point the bearings let go.

The channel called "afleetcommand" on youtube has many great 562xp videos dealing with 5 vs 6 screw cases etc.

Good info, thanks. I got the cylinder off. Also got a better look at the carb, its an el44. The ring is stuck in the piston and the top cover was melted above the muffler so maybe this was a heat issue too. The wrist pin is pretty much stuck the other bearings feel pretty gummed up too. And i can see grime in the case...i took a bunch of pictures but dont know how much you'll be able to see. Need to get a shopping list together. Will post pics soon

All that crap doesnt look like its meant to be there

Here are a few more after wiping off the grime and finding better lighting. Can this cylinder be cleaned up, and theres a pic of the muffler side of the piston.

Wow shes real dirty!!

Mine looked ridden hard and put away wet to. I got it for basically nothing so once I costed out the parts from husky it was a no brainer to do a full rebuild..

I split it to the bare crank case and removed the bearings.

Mine has 6 screw cases so no reason to change them.

Im trying to tell if mine is a 5 bolt or 6 bolt but I haven't pulled the flywheel yet so its kind of hard to tell. It seems like there's a lump where I would expect the other bolt to go but who knows. And of course the serial number plaque is gone so no help there ha.

There will be a lump in between the front of the case and the front of the cylinder under the muffler on the 6 screw.
