Im no fan of big rims in hardwood , i like torque and dont enjoy how "grabby" an 8 pin can be when im workin..if i was cuttin with spicy ported saws on the blocks at a GTG i may..not much expierence for me cuttin pieces of bread off of a cant.

My 066 came with an 8 pin installed, when I bought it new. Stihl specifies 85 DL for a 24 inch bar and a 8 pin rim and 84 for most other 24" applications. You can fit an 84 DL chain on the 24" bar with a 8 pin rim but it takes a little bit of work the first time you put the new chain on. On the other side, the 84 will stretch but not so far that you need to remove a link as the chain ages.

And just because Brad talked about needing a stout 066/660 to run a 8 pin, I run a 36" bar with full comp RS chain with the 8 pin rim and, yes the saw is stout. It cuts the big oak I work with easily.
