I sell stihl saws now...(ex faller/arborist) and my new stihl rep was trying to tell me the new 361 is the equivilent to the older 26. Now the 26 isnt that big of a saw. I figured the newer 260 would be pretty much the same saw. Whats your opinion.
I'm not into BS'ing a customer, i would rather sell from experience and having the right information.

Your rep evidently doesn't know his product very well. The 260 is the current version of the 026. The 036 became the 360, and then was replaced by the 361. The 361 is 59 cc's. The 026/260 is currently 50.2 cc's, after having been ~48 cc's until the latest changes due to the EPA.

No, he doesn't seem to have a clue, back to the school bench!:angry2:

The 036/MS360 was 61.5 cc.
The MS361 is a completely new design, with improved 4-channel engine design, anti-vibe, air filtration etc. Even though the new engine is smaller, it puts out slightly more max power (, and is reported to have a wider useful power band by those who have compared and commented on it.It is not just an improvement of the MS360 - so replaced is the word.

The pre 2005, 3.5 hp, MS260 was 48.7 cc, as was the 026.
The design is pretty old, and we are waiting for its replacement - hopefully a new saw with much the same design as the MS361, but smaller and lighter of course. No sign of it yet, though.

Around here, maybe the 036 does follow on from the 026. Everyone's gotta git a bigga saw.... :)

Seriously, I'll need that big saw someday....
