I had been cutting up some pine logs. Shut the saw off. Picked up a really heavy round and was walking towards the bucket of the tractor, with the intent of putting the round into the bucket.

Right before I get to the bucket....yep....I trip. As I fall forward the round hits the lip on the bucket knocking the round from my hands.

From this point on I'm not exactly sure what happened. I got nailed in the side of the neck. Felt like a truck hit me. I hit the ground hard and everything went black for a second. Then I realize what happened. The next thing that enters my conscious is the realization that I'm kind of twisted on the ground...shoulder and back hurt. Not knowing if I was seriously hurt or not, I got up and headed straight for the house (about 400 feet away). I figured if I got worse, I wanted to be in the house and not laying in a field.

Luckily, other than being a little sore I'm fine. Though I am sick with a sinus infection today. So I think what happened was I was getting sick, was overly tired and didn't realize it.

Here in the EMS world we call that getting "knocked out". If you black out then you have lose consciousness. All in all I hope that everything gets better for ya and next time just move the tractor closer to the rounds.:D

Sinus problems can mess with your equilibrium, which could've caused you to lose your balance when you otherwise wouldn't have. Just thinking out loud here.....

Get better and be careful!

About two weeks ago, I had a similar incident. Was moving some rough cut hemlock from a trailer into storage shed. While carrying a 6X6 by bout 16' I walked straight into the angle iron that comes off of the side of the trailer to hold the taillights. That dropped me to the ground, and I'm not usually one to be affected by bumps and scrapes. Dang near ended up with the beam on top of me. Ended up with a massive bruise and tore a little skin open.

It definitely took the wind out of my sail for that day!

Yes. Although the term "blacking out" is usually reserved for something a bit different around here.

I almost blacked out Saturday night, and it had nothing to do with cutting wood.

We used to call that passing out (after too many drinks) and the part which was worse was coming to (with a hangover).

Hope all turns out ok for you. Kind'a watch yourself for a few days. Funny things can happen down the road. If you don't feel right or get dizzy again, tell someone fast.

Thanks, guys. I'm doing fine other than this stupid sinus infection.

For the first few hours after the incident, I wasn't so sure. It actually felt like my chin wasn't in-line with the center of my chest when I was in the normal relaxed position. It felt like my head was rotated slightly to the right. I think it was because my neck muscle was tight. I'm good now though. Not even an ache in the neck.

This may sound crazy but it has worked for me. Go to a chiropractor. I have a messed up neck anyway. Thought I had sinus problems going on complete with sore neck and jaw muscle. Neck was out of whack. A couple snaps and the pain was gone as well as the sinus trouble. May have kinked your neck in the fall causing the sinus trouble.

:agree2: Take care of yourself man.

Do yourself a favor, and get yourself checked out.It may end up saving your life,or at the minimum save you a lot in doctors bills.

Last winter I took a rap to the skull.I was dropping trees, and after the climbing was done I took off my climbing helmet and donned my forestry helmet. An hour into cutting, I took a hard rap to the skull right below the edge of my helmet from a hung up branch.Saw stars, the ground moved around a bit,and I ended up on the tailgate for a bit until things cleared out.

When I got home, the wife commented on the large welt on my head,I blew it off.It hurt, but not bad.

Then started the ear ache,I blew it off.Days passed,it got worse and after a week i went in and saw the doc.He said I got an ear infection, gave me antibiotics.Weeks passed, the ear ache persisted. Finally went to a specialist and they did an MRI and a cat scan.
I was sitting there on the table in my skivvies when the doc came in, and by the expression on her face I knew it wasnt good.As she showed me the films, she told me she had never seen a skull with that many new and old cracks in it, and further explained that the ear ache I had was the result of an infected mastoid bone.
The doc sent me to the hospital, and a three day course of IV drugs, antibiotics, and pain killers followed by sixty days of oral antibiotics at home. They drilled a hole in my ear and put a tube in it for drainage.Because the infection spread to my jaw bone, I lost four teeth on that side and I am now going through the painful process of implants at the tune of $1800 per tooth.I am also quite deaf in that ear.It all could have been avoided by a trip right away to the doc and a simple xray.

The only reason my insurance company didnt drop me this year was because I was wearing a helmet at the time.

Head injuries are nothing to fool with.Get yourself checked out, even if you think you are okay.

I detail cars for a living, still fighting a cold also, I was crawiling out of the back of a car and when I raised up, BAM, I hit the back of my head on the top of the door. I remember when I was crawling out, the Cars song "shake it up" was on the radio, there was a different song on then next thing I remember. Pretty sore neck bone today...
