My neighbor finally joined the ranks of "wood burner"!<BR>
We got his wood stove put in the place of his pellet stove, but were wondering how far from the back wall should it be?<BR>
I had to split for work, so I could not get the stove model#, I will try and get that tomorrow, but I hope someone might know this model. Oh and I also got the truck stuck AGAIN! Pic's later. I can't wait to get a winch and this won't happen again..BTW, There's a pellet stove for sale...:dizzy:

Check the building codes in your county! ,pull a permit.
Have it inspected?(insurance won't cover it if a fire occurs)
I think 18"- 24" is the normal.

Clearance from the back wall varies according to building code and to the manufacturer of the stove, but the first thing I would tell my neighbor is to get those combustionables away from that stove! that stuffed chair and tv are way to close to that stove. I know that if that tv was that close to my stove, it would have melted long ago, and the minimum been damaged by the heat.

A pellet stove is a little different from a woodstove, you can more precisely control the heat coming from it by limiting the fuel going into the stove, but who hasnt thrown a bunch of wood in their stove, left the damper open to get it going, and forget about it for a few mintues only to return to a glowing stove running wide open?I know I have.
Then you have the scenario of slightly damp wood.It smolders upon lighting, you leave the damper open a bit, and an hour later aftter the wood had dried out it starts burning hot!

I would also consider making a bigger hearth and pulling that carpet back a bit.Not unusual to open your door and have a spark jump out on you.

I aint even going to get into that fluepipe installation......

I seriously doubt that your neighbors insurance would cover him if that stove burned his house down.My insurance company required NO combustionables within three feet of the stove, and this includes carpet!!

I would seriously consider moving these, or at a minimum pull a tape on em and see just how close they are to the stove.

I second that!!

The carpet and the chair to the left of the stove definitely needs to be moved. One little spark and their she goes!!

Getting stuck AGAIN!!!

Oh and I also got the truck stuck AGAIN! Pic's later. I can't wait to get a winch and this won't happen again..:dizzy:
I got the pic's on my second time getting stuck! I found that those hooks on my front end are worthless! I need a FULL bumper that attaches to the frame that I can hook to.

Yea, I know alot of stuff is too close, but we just dropped it there and we need to find out what the distances should be, thanks for the input. BTW, how do you add those blue arrows and stuff in the pictures?

Does the tag on the left side of the stove have the infromation you want?

I havn't had time yet. I dropped it there yesterday, then got my truck stuck in his backyard after I loaded up with more wood, but had to get to work. I went over this morning and spent 3 hours, had some neighbors help and had a cat pull me out. I did alot of digging, jacking and stuffing wood under the wheels, DAMB!!
I will check the tag on the side when I get time.<BR>
Here's my fun...<BR>

Did I mention I need a WINCH!?:censored:

The funny part about your photos..

The truck is sunk like a ship with a hole in the bottom. yet them silly street tires barely threw any mud up into the wheel wells.. If you are going to off road that truck put some mud tires.. What good does a winch do you when you are stuck out in the middle of a pasture? alone.

what kind of flue pipe is that ? I hope its not the pellet stove pipe!!!
big difference.

I duno Eric....something tells me more aggressive tires won't help him there. He just needs to better assess where not to drive when its soft out. I went to a sale several years ago. Everybody parked in a field like that pic. Now it was spring time so things where already iffy. Then it started to rain. And of coarse no one was going to risk missing a bargain to get out early. By the time people started to leave it was a whole field of just what K7NUT pictured. Didn't matter what you were driving you were stuck unless it was the Farmall 350 pulling people out. Out all the way to the road.

Here is the main link for all the info. Pay attention to the requirements for the hearth K or R factor. If that stone is on bare plywood, I believe that is totally inadequate as a shield.

Also, if that is single wall galvanized pipe, that is also a no-no. Your friend is asking for a case of zinc poisoning.

Please let us not have to read about your friend in the news.

There is'nt mud in the wheel wells, because I knew that it was over. In this mud, I know down 6 inches it will be soupy and the pumpkins are in the groung. Also, if you missed it, I posted a thread awhile back "what I did this weekend". I have been in and out of the field since November, I just found the one really soft spot!? Just my luck!

Thanks for the links and the pipe your seeing go through the roof is from the pellet stove. He moved it out and I wheeled in the wood stove and set it there, that's as far as we have gotten. The stove will have 6" or 7" flu pipe, not sure of the size in his ceiling or ontop the stove. I've been pre-occupied with getting my truck out, havn't helped him with the stove yet. Plus I work from 2-10:30, so I just have a little time in the morning. Thanks for all your input, I knew I could get help here.

When I was price shopping my homeowners last year, 3 different underwriters asked: "is the stove installed 36" from the nearest wall?"

Ridiculous, but there was no discussing it with them. They did not want to hear about it being a UL tested appliance and it was installed according to the manufacturers instructions OR that it had passed code and fire inspections.
