What do the experts say?

Wow‼ The leaves say it's an elm of some sort.
The bark looks like Chinese Elm, but the leaves look all wrong for that.
Maybe some sort of hybrid or cultivator.
Where is this tree growing??

its in new jersey, in a wooded area. it's not in a yard if that's what you mean. no houses are near by

it has to be cut down so I will be able to get some more pictures of the end grain if that will help. Just wondering if I should put the effort into getting it out and processed for firewood

I'm leaning towards Slippery Elm / Red Elm - mostly based on the close leaf attachment.

Op taste a twig seriously. A tender new one. If it taste like wintergreen its birch. I think its cherry. Taste test will be most helpful!

The bark is close the leaves are off.
